  • WVU won't be rattled by DKR atmosphere the team has played at LSU and AUBURN. Before switching conferences WVU. Made it a practice to play an SEC Team each year.

Uhhhhhhhhh . . . you realize Maryland is one of their biggest rivals. One they just bailed on.

That'd be like UT taking it easy on OU.

they've played a lot, but it's because of convenient geography, not some heated rivalry. wvu's ousucks is pitt, and maryland is too terrible at fb to even have a hated rival.

why do you say bailed on? game is scheduled through 2017.

All the WVU guys keep saying its a heated rivalry. I don't really know one way or another. Just taking their word for it, but yes, Pitt is more akin to OUSUCKS

  • I wish I had more confidence in our defense to predict a win. Still think this is a 10-2 team and this is one those losses.

    Hope I'm wrong, obviously.

Yep, we played them close on the road in 2010. Defense played lights out, but a couple very inopportune turnovers doomed us (fumble inside our own 10 to give them the go-ahead score).

I don't really want to get into much of a debate about the matchups for our game tomorrow, but I had a few things I feel obligated to point out/put into some perspective.

    1. Not a full-blown excuse, but worth taking into consideration... Maryland's D-coordinator just came from Houston. He started at Houstong the year after Holgorsen left, but they still run the same offense, so he's had a few years of trying to stop it in practice. He was also the rumored first choice to replace Jeff Casteel in Morgantown. It was actually widely believed he'd already been hired here, then there was confusion and he ended up at Maryland.

    2. (Opinion) OkSt's #1 scoring offense ranking is overrated and still in tact because of their 84-0 destruction of Savannah St. We don't have Joseph Randle, but OKSt doesn't have our receivers/QB. OSU's r-Fr backup QB threw for 300 yards last week, I see no reason to think Geno won't be able to top that. (obviously worded that to make it sound worse....Walsh is a pretty good QB)

    3. Blitz hard and blitz often if you want to slow us down. Our line hasn't done particularly in picking up the blitz recently. They're solid at locking guys down once they engage, but have a tendency to forget about extra guys. (ex: LSU had 0 sacks in 65 attempts last year, but was only bringing their front 4 most of the game). Syracuse, on the other hand, ran crazy zone blitzes all game, ended up picking Geno off a couple times and hitting him all game long....ended up winning big then losing every game the rest of the year.

  • WVU offense is very similar to OSU. Experience is a great teacher...defense should have a better idea of what to expect. Doesn't mean we can shut Geno and Co. down, but I think we can hold them under 40. At the same time, I think we'll hang 50+ on the WVU defense.

    jskipper

  • I agree with your assessment, but don"t think we see field goals, Texas 49-42.

    Texas

  • If we tackle, we win. If we miss tackles like we did against WYO and OSU, we lose.

I think it really is that simple.

No offense here, but your first point is bunk. First team defenses don't generally practice against first team offense. The 1's generally practice against the scout team who's job it is to simulate the upcoming opponent. So no, he didn't have a few years of practice stopping the Holgo O.

Second point, Walsh had success throwing because Texas couldn't stop the run. You guys are much more one dimensional and thus don't present the diversity of threat that OSU did.

This will be a really good game and I can't wait. I'll be pulling for you guys every game for the rest of the year...starting on Sunday.

.....Geno Smith is said to be coming into DKR with a chip on his shoulder from the lack of publicity he has gotten in the past....

He actually thinks he's been underpublicized?

Admittedly, we haven't known as much about him down here as I'm sure the fans in the northeast have for the past few years, but those guys just now joined the conference. I doubt if they knew a ton about Robert Griffin in West Virginia before last season, but down here we all knew about him.

He just started at WV last year. I think he transferred in, not sure though

With all due respect i don't know where you're getting that info from. Every article and interview that has come out the last several weeks Geno has clearly stated that he doesn't really care about the Heisman...its just a trophy. He just takes one game at a time and just wants to see the team come out with the win.

We have our sources. No attention was he getting in the Big East. Big 12 has changed that.
