Staff Predictions: Texas-TCU

Will the Horns extend their league-leading four-game win streak, or will TCU pull off the upset in its first Turkey Day game against Texas? The Hookem.com staff weighs in.

  • The fact that just about all of us are picking a win makes this game all the more dangerous. Also, I remember the hype of the game the last time we played them at home and how disappointed Patterson and his team were. I wouldn't be surprised if they upset us and put everyone back on the "FM"" band wagon.

  • Patterson is a very bright defensive coach. This is not his first time defending Bryan Harsin.

  • twocents...the Ash connection with his WR's is underrated, which I consider the most important Tex off vs TCU def aspect this week

The Ash-Davis connection gets better each week...if TCU tries to over-play Davis, that gives Shipley less coverage in his multiple routes & Goodwin on deep routes

  • Jeff, I don't think you're giving TCU/Patterson enough credit. They've been to much bigger games more recently than we have. I realize that this particular young team hasn't, but I don't know if they would necessarily look at Texas as their Super Bowl. The Thur prime time thing helps, but I just don't know if we have that luster this season.

  • TCU is going to run the ball until we stop it and I don't think we will on a regular basis. They are going to score at least 20 on us. I think we have a hard time getting to 20 if we tippy toe into this game. we need to be "guns a blazing" from the jump. this will probably be a one score game. to the mods, where do we best attack the frog d?

I think it's their Super Bowl for this season, not their Super Bowl of all time.

This is how I see it. That and turnovers. David Ash can't afford to revert to his Oklahoma and Kansas showings and give TCU a short field. Texas needs to make them earn every point they get with long drives.

  • Staff standings:

    Dave: 8-2
    Gerry: 7-3
    Blake: 7-3
    Bobby: 6-4
    Jeff: 6-4

Looks like I'm guaranteed at least a tie for first in the regular season. nbd

  • Hopefully the regression of the defense last week vs Iowa st. does not continue into this week. Manny needs to stay disciplined in his play calling i.e. NO STUNTS. Continue to use vicarro as his safety net instead letting him get taken out of the play as a nickel back. If we get behind early things could go south...

    Bobby,

Neither Patterson or Harsin will play a single snap. It all comes down to two things. Which team blocks better and which team tackles better. As much respect as I have for what TCU has done the past few years, it's Texas who sees a potential B12 championship if they play their best these next two games. TCU will play hard, but the Horns simply have more ways to make an opponent pay for small errors.

    So true.

But that doesn't mean there's not a puppet show going on at some level.

No possible way that TCU wins. These young players have reached a point in their development where they will play the best game they have ever played together. I think we dominate. We've entered a new era and that era will be evident on the football field tomorrow night. I am supremely confident....we are at the point of no return! Hook Em!

If he does, and 6 does not perform a miracle, along with his teammates, the Frogs win.

Haven't been right much this year, but this one was really easy to read. You don't get to be top 15 in defense in our league without being fundamentally sound and well coached.... Once again we were flat and the players believed the hype that we were gonna win the Big 12. Really like what Mack has done for us over the years, but it's getting old watching us be out coached especially when we've had time to prepare.
