I have to agree...like it or not, these kinds of concepts are getting high school kids excited. I really think Texas needs to look at some form of alternate jersey that they could use 1 or 2 games out of the year. A matte orange or black helmet. grey or black jerseys. different style of numbering or lettering. Something to make us stand out a bit without changing our culture...

I have to disagree here. Alabama hasn't altered their jersey one iota and they have no problem getting players. Winning and producing NFL picks is what excites players.
Oregon can pull those uni variations because they don't have the history of some of the blue bloods. But when you see the burnt orange jersey and the white helmet with the longhorn logo, every one knows immediately who it is on TV. Even better is the storm trooper unis. That's a jersey you don't need to mess with.

Yes, but the fact is that we have not won 3 out of the 4 National Championships...so we need something to bring some positive attention to ourselves...IMO Aggie hit a jackpot this year because they won and reinvented their uniforms. I think a big part of why the reinvented their uni's is because they thought they were not going to win for a few years, so they needed something new and different to keep the eyes of the recruits.
I'm not talking about Oregon radical, I'm talking about something similar to what Aggie did (as much as it pains me). An all black scheme, an all grey scheme, matte helmets. It changes things up a bit and keeps the kids excited without losing our identity. Ask a kid about the "storm trooper" scheme and see if they get excited? They probably won't even know what you're talking about...

If you look at this years recruiting rankings, besides Bama the 10 also includes Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Michigan. Those guys haven't won 3 out of 4 NCs neither but still haven't changed their unis much. USC also still doesn't have problems getting players and still have their traditional uniforms as well. Don't forget, last year's recruiting class was top 5 as well. The uniform for those programs and Texas ARE a selling point to recruits in that many who have gone on to the NFL very recently have worn those same jerseys.
Now the same recruits who make like the traditional uniforms of the blue blood programs may also like the ones that non traditional blue bloods like Oregon use. But non blue bloods like Oregon used those different schemes because they had to to close the recognition gap. Other non traditional powershave followed suit because like Oregon, their conventional uniforms don't really stand out. But the traditional powers like Alabama, Texas, USC, Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame have uniforms that already carry a lot of weight.
I understand the excitement needing to be ramped up on the 40. But I think there are issues in Bellmont that have Texas in a rut. I don't think tweaking the uniforms is the best thing. What get's them to sign a letter with you is winning and getting you to the NFL.

Yeah.....Notre Dame, Ohio State or Michigan haven't changed their uniforms MUCH....The jerseys below say hi buddy.
Look, I am NOT saying that we need to have a radical change to our everyday uniforms. All I am saying is that it would be nice to have an ALTERNATE uniform in a different color scheme every now and then. Maybe it's only when we have a home Thanksgiving game or when we play a non-conference game that will put us on national TV, like our upcoming dates with USC or Notre Dame. Of course we should always wear our traditional uni's when we play OU. But in other national TV instances, If a kid turns on his TV and we have something different, it will grab his attention.
Honestly, like Grady said, it should only be about what the result of the game is. And honestly if Texas won a championship every looking like a popsicle, that would be fine with me, because we would have the hardware to defend that popsicle.
