Out of the first 6 pairings, Spieth is one of only four golfers to finish the first 8 holes under par.

Spieth finished -1 for the day, one of just 11 to be under par at this point. Hossler birdied the 12th to go back to even, and is now tied for 6th place.
Pretty remarkable showing so far by the two amateurs.

For Hossler to birdie the 12th after that 3 putt on the 11th was incredible. This is really a lot of fun to watch.

I play golf but don't watch it on tv much. I realize it's the US Open but what happens if an amateur wins it, such as a college player like Spieth? Are they allowed to keep the money & still play collegiately?

He's only a junior in high school I doubt spieth is around when hossler shows up, and no his parents might be able to claim it but I don't think he can receive money for tourney wins

Kids got nerves of steel though he will never have more pressure at UT than he has right now and he is playing unbelievable! Nothing rattles the kid.
The best part is he will be able to pull some grade A money grubbin tail after this! Lol

Not true. To participate as an amateur, he had to waive the right to collect any prize money (except hole in one awards) before the tournament began. Rule 3-1.

You're welcome. By the way, I suspect the NCAA would consider accepting a hole in one award to be an amateurism violation, even if the USGA does not.

Hossler with the perfectly planned par on the first hole. Left rough, lay up, third shot runs over the green, 18' or so putt from the off the green for par
