Some quick Wyoming notes and score prediction

52-6. Hanging half a hundred and keeping them out of the endzonw would be a heck of a way to start the year.

I was thinking 52-10. I feel good about us hanging a half a hundy on them.

  • This game will be the first look at the 2013 edition of UT football. I expect UT to try to "hammer" UW. If this is as ugly as the two previous games were, it bodes a dank wind for the Longhorns.
    I see it 56-6.

  • I screamed all year about turnover margin last year. This year it will be in praise of Malcom the Great!

Seriously turn overs are a deciding factor in many, many games.

  • Somebody needs to make an advent calendar for the countdown to football season, except instead of candy use beer. I think I just might make myself one now that I think about it.

  • Like GetHooked, I see over half a hunsky dropped on Wyoming on 9/1... 55-13!

Ash & O-line have a ton to prove and see them getting it done from the 1st snap... most of that 13 comes in the 4th Qtr. And by the way, the countdown sits at 42 till TEXAS kicks... 40 days till college football kicks off on Thursday night, but who's counting!! toot

  • I'm feeling a bigtime statement game. Defense is going to be chomping at the bit. I don't know if Smith survives the whole game. I see him getting punished, often. Calling it now..(barring serious injuries..knock on wood)...SHUTOUT.

    52-0

    Horns rush for over 400.

  • Ive got questions about the linebackers, especially early in the season. Busted assignments and wrong gaps taken due to inexperience could lead to some long runs given up, possibly TDs. Going against a running QB will make it tougher on them right out the gate. Texas 41 - 17

  • I see the shutout occurring in the New Mexico game... everyone on the 'D' plays in that game!

Alright after I take the bar next week I'll make one. I guess I can do one for every day in August and count down to the opener. I'll be posting pictures on here for sure if I actually follow through.

  • I don't think our starting D will give up a touchdown. If a TD is scored, i think that only happens once the starters start to come out late in the game.

I do not think people realize how good Wyoming's offense is. They consistently score 21+ point against quality teams last year. They went bowling with one of the worst defenses in college football.

If we get up big early and play with substitutes in the second half I could see Wyoming getting 14-21 points. Their offense is going to be better than several conference teams we play this year.

I think good might be a little of a reach... I would say 'respectable' since they only put up 14 on the Blackshirts in a home loss... I would say the Cornshucker's D is a good barometer.

The last 3 games the Cowboys played in 2011 was at Boise St. (loss 14-36), at Colorado St. (win 22-19) and their bowl game against the mighty Temple Owls (loss 15-37) does not strike the fear of a Mike Leach/Art Briles offense in me. Yes, Brett Smith is a good Qb (ran for 850 yds., passed for 2622 yds., 20 td's, 11 int.'s)... I do see Manny rotating a lot of people on 'D' and giving the young, 2-deep starters a lot of minutes in the 4th qtr. in this one. I could be wrong, but I don't see WYO scoring points till the 4th!

  • Wyoming and their poor run defense actually reminds me of one of my complaints regarding Harsin from last season. Kansas and Texas Tech were both very poor run defenses so obviously it made sense to take advantage of that, however we got Malcolm and Joe hurt in back-to-back games and also got minimal work for David Ash. I think an extra 10 passes in each of those games could have gone a long way toward improving his confidence for the remainder of the season and possibly saved one or both of Malcolm and Joe.

Against Kansas, David Ash was 14 of 18 passing while Malcolm had 28 carries and Joe had 13 carries (as a team we rushed 72 times).

Against Tech, David Ash was 4 of 7 passing, Malcolm was held out due to injury and Joe had 29 carries (and an injured toe the rest of the season). We had 54 rushes against Tech as a team.

I'd prefer a 20 point win over a 30+ if it kept everyone healthy and continued to build the passing game. Obviously that's best case scenario and we can't always choose but just something I thought I would bring up.

    This.

We could pound Wyoming into submission to make ourselves feel better like the Tech and Kansas game last year but I would gladly take an uglier victory if we got real work in with our passing game.

  • 55-6. Brown runs for 143 with a pair of TD's. Ash goes 12-18 with 1 TD along with 1 rushing TD. Vacarro kills one WR, Jeffcoat gives the backup QB 4th quarter reps by knocking out the QB.

I agree, but I wonder if some of the excessive running in the Kansas game was a function of the score in the second half. Ash passed a good bit in the second quarter especially and did fairly well -- the interception in the end zone being a huge exception.

In the second half, when Case was in the game, it seems like we just ran the ball play after play. I think a large part of that was ball control to keep the ball away from Kansas and to limit scoring (as Mack has a tendency to do when games are already decided).

Some of the same really fits with the Tech game as well.

It would have been nice to see Ash develop in the pass game, but I think there may have been other issues at play.
