The place to talk about the Texas Longhorns
The place for off topic discussion on Hookem

And Im I the only one that is very worried that GG cant throw a short pass with some touch, how the hell can you have "all the tools" but not be able to throw a 5-10 yd ball thats easy to catch? Not sayin he shouldnt start against rice but part of me hopes to get the Ash show going in the first few weeks, at least for a few reps. Still trying to have faith in GG....

I got brains. I got big ol' brains. I got dinosaur brains.
Bobby, It seems to me that, "touch", could be an acquired skill. Why is it so difficult for him to get it. If he throws 100 touch passes in a row during practice, would he not begin to develope that skill???
Hook 'Em! ...'til early in the morn.
I think touch is a weird issue. Touch as far as throwing a catch-able ball, or touch as far as putting a ball in the right spot are two different things IMO. His WRs in HS seemed to catch his throws ok. I hope we have better WRs than he had in HS
I'm sick and tired of the "oh noes... the freshmen will be playing in front of 100,000 fans and that's a lot of pressure" comments.
Who the eff cares? Sure, it's a lot of pressure, but why operate out of the absolute fear of failure. It seems to me that unless we recruit only mentally weak players, what the hell is the big deal? What? Do we only have a bunch of freshmen that need to be coddled and nursed along psychologically? Or did we actually recruit the badasses we thought we did? Come on.
This scared of failure crap is exactly what leads to failure.
Instead I'd love for the staff to say, alright Diggs... you've shown you are a baller. You'll get your chance. I hope you like the sound of a 100,000 Texas fans chomping at the bit for the season to be underway.
You either get two responses:
1.) A big smile and anxious excitement
2.) The oh crap, what am I going to do? face
Treating every player the same (bringing them along slowly just because they are a freshman) is a mistake.
Like Jimmy Johnson said, "You treat every player the same, but you treat every player different."
Sure you hold them all to the same standard, but as a coach you should figure out which players will thrive in certain situations and which ones won't.
Diggs seems like the type that would thrive in that situation, and not starting him simply because he's a true freshman, just stinks of hesitant, over-cautious, coddling Mack bullcrap.
