So is Clemson out for sure?

    Clemson was never in serious consideration by those that mattered.

    Makes sense. You've been pretty consistent all along.

    What are you hearing. Are we going to add anyone this year or next? I just can't see this conference staying pat at 10 teams for longer than 3 years.

    As Bobby has said repeatedly, Texas and OU are looking for teams that will make the TV deal bigger. Baylor and the other have nots want expansion for the sake of getting bigger, they think it makes them safe. Keep in mind that FSU was never part of a deal that included Clemson, FSU could still happen if the numbers are right.

If Big 12 blows this we might expand, but we won't enhance the conference. If we don't add another top team or 2, will the SEC want to renew the "Champs" Bowl series?

    Yes, they'll want to renew because the majority of football fans in Big 12 are in a different footprint than the SEC. The SEC and ACC have way too much overlap in three states - Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

    The 2012 version of the Big XII will have six different programs that have won a BCS bowl over the last decade - no other conference can claim that (the B1G and SEC also have six, but NU and Tennessee's wins were more than 10 years ago). Florida State's last BCS win was the 2000 Sugar Bowl. Clemson hasn't won anything since the Danny Ford years.

    FSU and Clemson don't dilute our product the way aggy and Mizzou do the SEC but they are not currently on the same level as WVU and TCU.

    Would agree with your last sentence in regards to Clemson, but Florida State gives B12 a bigger product than both TCU and WV.

  • I don't think FSU moves without a partner in that area.

    But I don't know what would be driving their decision. If it's money, maybe it happens anyway. If ND agrees to join in whatever form, maybe it happens. But I think not having Clemson is a problem.

  • I doubt that FSU's ties to Clemson are all that deep. I think that they would join the B12 if ND did.

    Maybe not, but seriously doubt FSU will come by themselves. Choices would be Miami, Clemson, Georgia Tech or Virginia Tech, and Miami won't get an invite, period. As to why does FSU require a partner? When Texas was checking out conference options, why wouldn't we go by ourselves? Same answer.

    The only strong programs that might be available, ones that make the media needle move, are Notre Dame, FSU, Maimi, VT, GT, and long shots eventually if current trends worsen, UNC, Florida or Georgia. OK, call me crazy. But of that group, other than those in the ACC, exempting UNC, none are really available. ND would have to be dragged kicking and screaming to give up their football independence. In other words they would have to be forced either by a playoff requirement, real or implied, to join to have a chance at being a conference champion, or by being frozen out by the mega conference 9/10 game schedules and their contracted cross conference games (PAC vs. B1G, etc.). Given their status as conference founder & leader, the ACC will have to lose 4 teams, probably more, to raids from the Big 4 for UNC to begin to question their situation. And Florida and Georgia will have to get to the point of feeling they can no longer compete with the cheating practiced by the rest of the conference and that the NCAA will never be able to correct the problem.

    Other than the southern ACC teams, the odds on any of that happening are pretty long. How long do you think it will take for Bowlsby, Texas, and OU to come to the same conclusion and see that an eastern division is in the best interest of the conference, however you define that?
