Im sorry for being so blunt but I think the reason Texas underachieves is because of its horrible wishy washy fan base....there I said it!

Thanks for that Sally. Definitely the fan's fault IMO. If we just cheered a little harder, no doubt we wouldn't have lost to OU by forty or gone 5-7 in 2010.

So much derp in this post it's absurd.

  • This was the first game where the defense play for each other and really flew to the football. This team surprised me and most fans. They really stepped up for Mack. Win the next 2 games and things look a lot better. However, if this team gets happy and satisfied it will lose. No margin for error. Other than the 3rd quarter "play not to lose" play calling, this was a complete win.

  • I agree with the lack of swing passes to Daje and Monroe. It just boggles the mind why Texas doesn't dial those plays up more. I'm also not a fan of using Shipley as the sweep man in the wild-cat. I understand that he gives you threat to throw the ball, but he's not the player in space that Monroe is, plus the defense has to respect the potential of giving it to Monroe more than Shipley.

Another thing that I fail to understand is why there is no intermediate throws in the Texas passing game. It's either a bomb, a screen, an 6-8 yard out, or a crossing route a couple yards in front of the sticks. No throws in the 12-20 yard range, which really allows the safeties too much freedom to play run support.

Can we also not run the ball to the short side of the field without a WR to block the uncovered CB.

  • Huge game for the program. Now there is a legitimate chance at a 9-3 regular season and a ten win season. I honestly expected us to play much better today than we had last week. Kansas was the classic trap game where a young team comes in completely flat and lays a huge egg. Too many people don't understand the psychology of football. Look at what happened to Notre Dame today after their big win over OU last week. Emotion is such a huge part of this game.

The offense came out on fire in the first half. I'm disappointed that we became conservative again in the first quarter and took the foot off the pedal. I would never have guessed that 31 points would win the game. At some level, we were fortunate that Tuberville took a classic approach and settled for field goals and punted , rather than going for fourth downs like we saw against WVU and Baylor. But the young linebackers did play much better. Edmonds had by far his best game of his career. Bobby pointed out his great pass break up; but he was making tackles across the entire LOS . Thompson was solid as well. Hopefully; he will be able to be back next week; TCU at the latest.

Great games from Gray, who now clearly is a starting tailback even if Brown comes back. Its getting close to time to tell Bergeron to learn the fullback playbook. Espinosa actually had a nice game when he was pulling. Having Hawkins back at starter at left tackle was a boost. Other than his hold, Cochran played well at right tackle.

Joe Bergeron scored the only rushing touchdown but Johnathan Gray is the team's No. 1 running back. The baton has been passed.

    You're underestimating Mack Brown's complacency.

  • Surprised there was no mention of Tubberville and the OC's questionable play calls in the red zone and HC decisions.

The run on 3rd and 10 in the red zone in the first half, going for 2 too early, and the decision to punt at mid field in the 2nd quarter on 4th and 3 were all gifts for UT.

Not meant to be negative just something I observed while watching. Big win and hope we don't have a letdown next week.

Wow, the typical negative Nancy's are sure quite!! It's pretty damn nice!!! Hook'Em!!

You know, if we played like this all season, we don't get blown out by OU or nearly lose to Kansas.

A different team took the field today, and I can honestly say I feel good about them not laying down and responding to adversity.

Having said that, I really dislike that it took adversity to turn the intensity and urgency up.

That timeout he called with 10 seconds left in the first half nearly bit him in the ass too.

  • This remains a deeply flawed team but that was a really satisfying win.

I thought Espinosa also deserved a game ball today. This seemed to me by far his best game as a Longhorn.

I am so proud that I held my ground against the majority of this board that pick the Longhorns to not only lose but lose decisively...what do you have to say for your poor football acumen skills and your disloyalty to the University of Texas football program as a fan? Losers! The Longhorns have proven you wrong...thats a fact! Im sorry for being so blunt but I think the reason Texas underachieves is because of its horrible wishy washy fan base....there I said it! Theres still room on the bandwagon...

Dude, give it a rest. I too picked the Horns to win, but I'm not on here breaking my arm, patting myself on the back like you are...I'm DEFINITELY still of the opinion that Mack NEEDS to retire after the season.

Agreed, I thought they did a good job getting Espinosa in space where he is far far better

Not fair to blame Cochran for that hold. That guy exploded around the edge and he was going to get a free blindside hit on Ash. Much rather get the fifteen yard fifteen yard penalty than lose 8 yards and potentially get Ash hurt.

Agree. My point wasn't Cochran as much as it was Texas shooting itself in the foot.

This was a great win for the team and they and the coaching staff should be proud of the greatly improved effort.
Having said that, do you seriously think that the team has underperformed because of the fan base? I would have put preparation and performance on the field higher on the list of reasons that they have performed below their potential and our expectations.

  • I don't have as much confidence as I ought to based on how we've played this year but I'm hoping that we get more out of our defense now that Manny seems to have figured out a few things. Hopefully, he's realized that straight up/simple defense is okay when you have our talent. Hopefully, he's realized that Malcom Brown is a grown ass man that should be playing the vast majority of the snaps like he did today.

  • Good game. i could see they worked their tails off. I am on the fence on whether Mack should retire or be fired. Most of us were wrong in thinking we would lose this game. Its interesting how last year we thought we would be beat OU and we were pathetically wrong. Even more pathetic this year with OU. What this team hasnt had is consistency. What they do have is high potential if the right team shows up, if coached right, and comes in with the the right mentality.

Defense is improving each game with whoever's left on the team. Offense on the other hand flip-flops... when expectations are low they play well and when its high, they let things down. Kudos to them for their efforts today but based on past history I can only dread whats going to happen next week...With last week being bad and today being great, I can only dread whats going to happen with Iowa State next week. LOL.Maybe we should keep our expectations low and the right team will show up :-)

Bobby do you think Gray is being told not to read on the wildcat? Can't think of a single time he's handed it off...gotta figure some team will notice this

I think there's no read on it right now.

I'm not certain what that meant; but if you don't understand trap games; you don't understand college football. Ask Notre Dame about trap games after today. Remember the miracle that we needed to beat KU in 2005. There simply are games teams don't show up for; especially young teams like this one.

    gordosan

  • Thompson had a helmet-to-helmet hit - the 2nd one I saw that the zebras missed. Too bad you can't get penalties on replays.
Good win today. A lot of intensity and better tackling.
