To me, this game is very simple to post-mortem.
1. Texas' OL simply isn't good enough to establish the run against a solid DL / Front 7. It's a personnel issue at this point. Further, Ash is a play-action QB, so when you can't run the ball at all, the play-action is ineffective and the TCU DBs can take risks for INTs. Basic offense here.
2. Texas' DL scheme (and LB to a lesser extent) is just foolish. There's no reason to take the risks that Texas does with it's DL, via slants, stunts, loops, etc... No reason. It's a coaching issue, not a personnel issue. TCU gashed Texas with the run in the first half, and had all the points they needed (14) by halftime. The defensive game plan should have been really simple - stack the box and make TCU's QB complete lots of passes to gain first downs and score points. Instead, TCU won with only 7 completions, and ran the ball for 220 yards against slanting DTs, and looping DEs. Just dumb, dumb, dumb.

Yep, he continues to think he must blitz and stunt on a majority of plays when if he would just line up and play a base defensive scheme his kids would have a better chance at success. It was shocking to me to see him do this after thinking he had figured this out finally.
Diaz must get the boot with out question. Mack knows this group has underachieved and is not up to his rebuilding expectation which would have been a minimum of 9-3 this year or better to get back on track. His kids have tuned him out and a times give up as he is not able to keep them playing at a high level. This is coaching and he understands this. I expect him to retire at the end of the season and will be surprised if he does otherwise.

I don't like saying this, but you have to change DCs. I don't think it's even a question after this.
It's the same thing he did against Iowa State and other games this year but this time he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar one too many times.
You just don't have to play that kind of risky defense to win against some teams. It's absolutely counter productive.

I guess for me the buck stops with the man in charge. He is 21-15 in his last 36 games coached and in all likelihood will have 2 wins against teams that finish the season ranked (NU in 2010 and OK State this year).
No evidence at this point the team will be competing for Big 12 championships at this point (which should be the minimum at $5.2 million).

Bobby, I appreciate the in-depth breakdown of the causes, but if you re-read your comments you notice that it's heavily dominated by massive problems with scheme and blitzing.
If you want to simplify all those great points it reduces down to (1) David Ash is pulling the string on his passes because he is not confident, resulting in the passes being short or behind the target and (2) Manny Diaz. All things you mentioned about the D can be laid solely on Manny.
You are correct in knowing that Mack is not going to retire nor be fired, period. So, that leaves the only option as firing Diaz. This has to happen. He has proven that no matter how many games he sees us getting gashed with his misguided approach to defense, he will do the same thing next week and next year. Hard to believe he's that hard headed but he is, and for that he needs to be shown the door with no remorse. He earned it.
And RacerX, as usually you are dead on balls accurate. -

That's not quite right. Not counting OU as either home or road, the home record is:
2012 2-2 (losses to WVU, TCU, wins over Baylor and ISU) 2011 2-2 (losses to OSU, KSU, wins over KU and Tech) 2010 0-4 (OSU, ISU, Baylor, A&M -- all losses)
