Should Texas not be dominant on both OL and DL

  • Year in and out there seems to be an abundance of big DL in Texas.
2006: Brandon Antwine, Ra'Jon Henley, Jeremy Beal, Eddie Jones, Ugo Chinasa,
2007: Andre Jones, Richetti Jones, Russell Carter, Von Miller,
2008: Jarvis Humphrey, Chancey Aghayere, Rod Davis, Kheeston Randall, Tony Jerod, Kapron Lewis-Moore, Andrew Wolridge, David King, R.J. Washington
2009: Calvin Howell, Jamarkus McFarland, Alex Okafor, Michael Brockers, Tevin Mims
2010: Taylor Bible, Ashton Dorsey, Eric Humphrey, Jackson Jeffcoat, Reggie Wilson, Greg Daniels, Jackson Richards

  • Texas missed on some key guys. But frankly, the state of Texas has numbers issues on the defensive front, specifically DTs.

There just aren't many of them.

  • Call me crazy and I understand why anyone would at this point, but I think the Texas DL is going to be very good the next 2-3 years.

Most improved unit next year will be DT.

The DL, I actually like the future.

Texas can't trot out Gideon and Scott at safety and expect to be as good on defense as they want to be next year, however.

Lamarr Houston had a good career.

They have always needed to do more up through Colorado, Kansas and Missouri.

I'm not sure I understand the point. Are you suggesting Texas has not recruited well at the position or that the recruits are not panning out? The only legitimate misses on your list are Beal, Chinasa, and Von Miller. The only legitimate busts that Texas did sign is Russell Carter. The others that didn't pan out had nothing to do with football: Dre Jones - thuggery, Humphrey - kidney disease. I think 2009 and 2010 is still too early to tell.
I agree with Gerry that DT should improve a lot, especially if Randall comes back. If just two of Bible, Howell, Dorsey, Cotton and Daniels put in the work this off-season they should be vastly improved. Okafor with another off-season training for DT could make big strides as well.
I also agree with Gerry about the safeties. I don't think they can trot out any combo of Gideon/Scott/Vaccaro/Brewster as the safeties at any point next year. They present too big a liability in pass coverage. One of those guys (probably Vaccaro) plus Phillips would be my starters. Phillips backup needs to be someone with range, maybe Demarco Cobbs or Bryant Jackson.

    I'll bite,

    What makes you say that?

To an extent. He mentioned them in an interview as a school he would like to hear from. They got after him about a month later.

That is common in out of state recruiting so I don't fault them for that.

  • Players are not being developed and there is many bad evaluations. That list is just the 4* players in the those classes who played on the DL.
