This curtails with what Johnny Walker has posted about, but its something I have been wondering since Muschamp left. Texas is in a tailspin. We all know this. So, IMO, the best response for Texas is to not play by the normal rules of the game, but come out swinging like no program has ever before (when trying to rebuild their staff).
If you understand the dynamics and financials behind Texas Football, you should realize that we "are the Joneses" (Deloss, not me). Perhaps a more helpful analogy is...aren't we the New York Yankees? Can't Texas change the entire dynamics of how head coaches, coordinators, and assistants are paid?
More specifically...
-Shannon or Austin (Walkers post) -- why not give shannon 1.5 million and Austin 1 million and get them both?
-Major is needed, but we want Harsin -- do the same thing as above. Why not?
-There might be resentment with other coaches like Akina and Giles -- fine, pay them 500k. why not?
I recognize that, as the Redskins have shown, you can't just throw money at a wall and expect it to work out. What your throwing the money at needs to be the right decision. But given our circumstances, why do we play by the rules of other schools that can't keep up? Anyone else ready to start acting like the Yankees?
I think I am...
