  • Mods- any rumors to the start time for the Oklahoma STate game?

Girlfriend just told me I have to be at a wedding (6 pm start) and the reasoning that this game is a crucial early season road test was unconvincing in getting me out of the commitment...

Any Ideas from those veterans in the same predicament?

11:00AM, 2;30PM; or night game. Game time announced 6 or 13 days before the game.

Are you and the girlfriend getting married? No? Be a man. Put your foot down. People who get married in the Fall should have more respect for the game.

But seriously. Let her run things now, it'll get worse later. Just sayin'.

  • Has she told you whether you are the groom?

"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.

  • If it was my girlfriend, she'd most likely be the one taking to the web to tell the story of our wedding discussion.

I imagine she'd start her post off like such: Boyfriend just told me to go f*ck myself

Playa, my advice to you is if she is only a girlfriend of less than a year she has not put in enough time to dictate anything to you on a Saturday in the fall, period. Especially if these are friends of hers or people you don't give a damn about. If you plan on having a long term relationship with her then you need to establish ground rules now, the first of which should be don't f**k with my Saturdays from September til the end of November. After that I will do whatever you like, but college football Saturdays are mine. I'm not just talking out my ass to you either playa. I'm a very happily married man of 12 years and I established this early on and my wife respects it. I'm not at all trying to portray this image that my wife obeys me. Far from it (which I don't want anyway because I want a partner and not a trained dog) but on this she has no choice but to because I gave her none in the matter. You need to do the same now if you plan on developing this relationship or you will find yourself missing many more games (some of greater importance than this one) in the future. Bite the bullet now no matter her reaction which will probably be one the two go-to plays all women have and effectively use. The crying/emotionally charged argument in which she will call you everything under the sun to get a rise out of you and make you argue on an emotional level and no man is equipped to beat a woman on that level so keep your calm and say nothing other than you're sorry she feels that way but stick to your guns. The other play to be prepared for is the passive agressive approach. You have to take this hit for the team now though because if you don't she will expect this of you and when that time comes when there is a can't miss game that conflicts with something she wants you to do and you tell her how you feel the ensuing argument will become one of what you used to do and how you have "changed".

This is true, but I have a suspicion more and more games will be night games going forward, whether it be the featured night game on ABC, a 6 pm game on FSN, or a night game on ESPN. The weekend of Sep 29 there are only 3 Big 12 games (and in a fourth game TCU plays non-con at SMU and that game is already locked to be shown on FSN through the C-USA contract). They are:

    Texas @ OSU
    Tech @ Iowa State
    Baylor @ WVU

Seems like Texas is locked into the second pick behind Baylor @ WVU. Assuming the second pick goes to FSN (as opposed to Tier 1 ABC picking up 2 games, both a regional afternoon and a night), the game will compete with SMU @ TCU on FSN's schedule for who is the morning regional game and who is the evening national game.

In sum, if this were past seasons, I'd say 6 pm on FSN for sure, but, as Jeff said, hard to make predictions when the available timeslots haven't been finalized with TV contracts.

    This is some good info!

I will elaborate. It's a 10 month relationship that I'd hate to chunk out the window for 1 game vs. Okie State. Now if it was OU, she would for sure understand her date would be someone other than me. She's an understanding woman fellas that just asked for 1 weekend in the fall. The sad part is the bride and groom are Horns so I havent a clue what they are thinking!!

Perhaps this game will be the national Fox game of the week. If so ill be in the parking lot next to the tv and rabbit ears combo!

I have witnessed in person every BCS bowl game Texas has played in. I sprinted out of my cousin's wedding reception at an art gallery in Chicago to find a random bar to watch the fourth quarter of Texas @ tOSU. Yet I got married during the Kansas game in 2009 to a Texas grad. My brother, who may be a bigger fan than me, followed that up by getting married during the Kansas game in 2011 to a Texas grad. Crap happens. You'd be surprised at how quickly available weekends fall by the wayside.

Wait is that Fox or FSSW? I know it's the national game but what channel.

Side Note: Fox is stepping up their game with those matchups and Erin Andrews.

Pretty cool that the Big 12 Tier 2 rights have now turned into a national over-the-air Saturday night primetime broadcast. I am in the minority that thinks Gus Johnson is grossly overrated and full of himself, but as long as he isn't Joel Myers, I'm not going to complain.

Basically the FX package from last year moved to big Fox.
