  • Alann- Any chance we could see Stafford back at full strength next season?

  • There appears to be something wrong in the athletic department when you can’t make it to a bowl game in football, have to get in the last or next to last position in basketball and miss out in baseball all within 2 years.

I believe Dodd has proven to be a very good business AD, but I believe all the realignment issues and the LHN network has been a bigger distraction than anyone wanted to admit to or could see.

Word is he's going to leave. I don't think it's been made official, but that's what people are thinking around the program.

I'm not ok losing all major sports to Baylor for 2 years running...in some cases big losses....I am the owner of a business...if I continually lose to the competition for 2 years running, I don't sit around reminiscing about my success 5 years ago. I go fix my problem...if that makes me a loser of the internetzzz to you and Rivver, I gladly accept the big L tag...

Listen, you're not wrong that the last two years have not been good in the three major sports (although you seem to be ignoring that just last season the baseball team made the College World Series, which was way more than they should have done with the talent, and Baylor crapped out in the Houston regional), but you sound silly and ignorant when you try to somehow extrapolate that to crap on the entire DeLoss Dodds era. You don't redeem yourself by weakly trying to make fun of people that point out the gaping holes in your logic, either.

To get back on track, for the three major programs, I'd put rank my level of worry from least to most football, basketball, baseball. With football, action was taken and the ship is turning around. The offensive talent is still not where it needs to be and I'm not completely sold on Harsin as having a great feel for in-game adjustments, but things have been address. With basketball, I think the jury is certainly still out. We can't have it both ways. We complained about all the 1 and dones, but when we got a class of four year players, we were upset they weren't all world their freshman season. I think basketball will be better, but we'll see. For baseball, the good news is roster turnover from year to year in baseball is huge so the next season is always unknown. The bad news is baseball has not addressed what ails it, yet. Even when making the CWS last season, that team just wasn't very good. What really upsets me about baseball is not the lack of talent, it's the lack of focus. When the team made its run starting in 1999 and through 2003-04, those teams were all about out-executing bigger, stronger teams. Play lights out defense, execute flawlessly on the basepaths, etc. Hell, the symbol of those early teams was Justin Simmons, a guy that didn't touch 90 on the radar gun, but just got it done. From 2005 for the next few seasons, you had teams that were still mentally tough, but were also impressive physical specimens. But you could see the focus starting to go a bit. The team lost the CWS championship series to Cal State Fullerton on bad defense, which had been a problem most of the season. Now, it seems the physical specimens are no longer making it to campus, but worse yet, the fundamentals have just continued to deteriorate.

First of all, we finished third in conference behind two teams that at various times were ranked in the top 5.

We lost two pitchers to injury, and another because he thought he had a brighter future in alcoholism than baseball.

Also lost Cohl Walla to injury before the season started.

Finally, Texas has been to the CWS SEVEN freaking times under Augie, including last year.

...and some of you that "don't follow baseball", think it's time for a change after one bad season where he finished third in the BigXII?

'Shortstop C.J. Hinojosa, a recruit in the class of 2012, failed in an attempt to qualify to enroll in January.'

'The Longhorns made 70 errors in 52 games, including a team-high 16 by sophomore third baseman Erich Weiss. Senior Jordan Etier, an adept second baseman forced to play short when Hinojosa could not, made 15 errors. Last season, the Longhorns made 47 errors in 68 games.'

'The Longhorns finished eighth among nine Big 12 teams in hitting and last in fielding percentage.'

  • Guess we'll see Augie at Eddie V's over the new few weekends. Not making the Regionals ... it just doesn't happen. Be on the lookout for a natural disaster.

  • Couldn't agree with you more. The committee chose to punish Texas for not being Texas this season. Did they deserve to enter the tourney? Debatable, but looking at the few teams they took on the bubble instead of Texas, chances are, Texas is better and resume is better - Sam Houston St. stands out to me. No offense, but from my perspective, the committee was capitalizing on the chance to have someone other than Texas in the tourney. I think they'd have gone 2 & done in the tourney because it's doubtful Curtiss could have pitched, but I do believe they should have been in... I realize all of that is just my opinion. You can say all you want that Texas should have "taken care of business", but at the end of the day isn't that true of every team? When you're sitting side by side with Sam Houston St. and resume's are similar - humbly, Texas gets the nod - or should anyway. They'll come back VERY soon! And for all who are wondering, Augie took the party line but he did a masterful coaching job this year even getting this doomed team to 3rd in the conference. Ask yourself this question? How many teams in America could lose the players we lost and finish 3rd in the Big 12? Not many - including the Gaggies!

I don't follow baseball at all but from the sound of it they didn't deserve to go.

Not sure you could say they didn't deserve to go or did...unfortunately. It was a down year (for Texas). That said, if a down year is 3rd in conference with quality wins against Rice, Baylor, A&M, and a sweep of Regional 2 seed, OU on the road, I'll take it. Augie took the party line but he knows he got snubbed by this committee and he'll do everything he possibly can to shove it in their face (on the diamond) in a few years - if not next year! There are areas to shore up - infield D being the biggest this year, but this wasn't a terrible baseball club - they were pedestrian when expected to be good to VERY good - committee chose to punish them for not being them! It's fine, they'll be back! Soon!
