After reading this lengthy, Lache-loving, Lyles-abiding, Ducks-a-doting piece, I feel like participating a group hug and adopting a one-legged puppy from the pound. Just this portion here made me want to offer mea culpas and go to an ashram to repent my cynicism.
• Lost, though, in today's continuing headlines, is the pain that all of the negative attention has caused the rest of the Seastrunk family. Lache has young cousins who look up to him as a great example; the wild accusations are bad enough. But this is not the worst of it for the family. Many of Lache's family are long time, die-hard, Texas Longhorn fans. The family has had to endure being cursed at and ridiculed in public over the alleged actions of Will Lyles. And that is a shame. These family members have done everything they could to help raise Lache. As one family member states "that old saying about it taking a village, Lache had a village. And we, his family, were a big part of that village." And he is right; the village did help with Lache.
Just a, uh, splendid piece of, er, journalism.

I am rooting against that dude. I hope he fails miserably and I hope he takes that whole program down with him. I sat the fence for a while about how much he actually knew, but at this stage, it is very clear that he knew what was happening just about every step of the way.

Well, this response was not unexpected, but to see it come from the Oregon end is a further demonstration of the absurdity of the circumstances. I figured Whitlock or some local Texas hack would do a contrarian story for the Seastrunks.
To me, there is no gray area regarding Seastrunk. He took money, his mother took money, and the whole family was in cahoots with Lyles. His aunt was a damned poster on ShaggyBevo. She attempted to take me to task on a few occasions about her nephew and his complete and total innocence. When SLX came on in a thread and went where I wouldn't, specifically laying bare the entirety of the family's corruption with Lyles, she first attempted to play stupid, which I think she was. Then, clearly after she checked in with Seastrunk's mother, she came back and with the help of a board admin, deleted every post she had ever made on the board in an attempt to cover up any tracks in the dialogue that a family member had left behind in public. She also attempted to simultaneously apologize and disavow herself of the cheating over PM once she realized how pathetically naive she had been.

Youre mad at the wrong people. Its the people that gave up the money that people should be upset about. Im glad he got paid. If the booster/coach/alum is dumb enough to break the rules by giving it, thats on them. Lache isnt the bad person in this, just like Cam Newton isnt in his case. If these are supposed to be upstanding institutions, then they would turn anyone that asked for a twinkie away knowing its against the rules.
College football needs to pull back on the reigns and pull them back hard.

Morals in college football? Talk about the ultimate oxymoron. First, I have no clue how this is racist. My point is that everyone is going to rake Lache over the coals about all of this. IF he or his mother took money, its not their fault the school gave it to them. The institution should know better as well as their alum/boosters/coaches. If Lache and his mom asked for money, the school should have stopped recruiting him. Its not that hard to understand. Second, all of your comparisons are lame. In the case of Mr Jack Daniels, the rule being broken isnt the sale, its driving after you got drunk. In comparison, it wasnt Lache asking for money that will get said school in trouble, its the booster giving him the money, thats the crime or broken rule. If people stop paying individuals asking for money, they will still have to go to school and they wont get any money if people associated with the school dont pay. Lastly, do you think every recruit asks for money?? Do you think they are given money anyway?? There are no morals in college football. You must not be paying attention. And yes, Im sure there are more than a few $100 hand shakes at texas too.
