Saturday's Top Performers -- the ten best from open practice

Sorry but if you idiots think Gray so far is anywhere near a talent like Todd Gurley; then you need to lay off that burnt orange label and burnt orange powder.

He broke one long TD run running against some very poor defenses behind a very questionable OL, but UGA's OL wasn't very good either.

So far as far as their ages go, Gurley is very good to great while Gray is above average.

For a five star tounted top 10 recruit in the nation, that is slightly disappointing so far people.

Not really sure why you're calling me an idiot for disagreeing with you. I just don't think he's a bust. Never compared him to anyone else, you did. Just because you don't think he's the best doesn't mean he's a bust.

I would still like my odds on Gray if he got 222 carries. Great backs tend to break long late in the game.

    I agree completely.

  • UT is loaded at RB, more than any team in the nation. However, I was disappointed in Gray's numbers this year. Top RB recruit in the nation and I expected more. I don't think he is a bust by any stretch. IMO, UT needs better than Ash but there is no one pushing him. They can win with him if Shipley and Davis stay healthy, but the biggest issue is that UT needs a dominant OL. Perhaps that is coming from this year's recruiting class, but I don't know that will help next fall.

  • Pjstyles, that was a great summation and comparison of the differences between the two offenses. Defenses were afraid of Aaron Murray for good reason. He was a serious threat with the homerun throw. The D's were equally worried about the pass as the run. Not so with Texas. Ash is tenative and nothing close to the leader of the offense that Aaron Murray is, although remember that Murry was a junior last year. Murray is aggressive. Ash is passive. Hopefully that changes with a more aggressive play caller.
Also correct about the O-Lines. Our line was average last year, not especially good. Aside from Trey Hopkins none of the linemen were regularly dominant. Espinosa and Walters regularly had mediore games, Hawkins was reliable but not dominant, and Cochran was serviceable. Thank goodness Hopkins recruited himself so McWhorter more or less had to take him.
You were also correct about tipping off the defense with all the silly little packages, only to run the same plays that those packages had been running in prior games. I am so glad to not have to watch two or three guys regularly shuffling on/off the field giving the opponent plenty of time to narrow down which of the two or three plays we would run next.
