Hookem.com lists the top ten performers from Saturday's open practice, the last of two for the Longhorns this spring.

  • Thanks for the evaluation. It sounds good to hear that Mason Walters seems to be playing consistently for at least today. Texas needs him to be a leader in a lot of ways.

  • I'm the president of the Sheroid Evans fan club. I said for months that he's both the best athlete and tackler in the secondary. Watch the Ole Miss garbage time plays. He's GOT to be in the top 5 in the rotation or we'll be sub-optimizing the defense...again.

  • Any concern that Reed's domination of Estelle speaks more to Estelle not being ready than to Reed being that good?

    JerseyBornHorn

  • Just too many guys currently on the Longhorn roster that were supposed to be a lot better than this. Phillips, Gray, Walters and the list goes on of 5 and 4 star players that are just average to above average instead of being very good to great players.

Estelle seems to be quickly becoming the next one to fit that category.....dammit.

I don't think so. I give Reed a lot if credit. To watch him in drills, he's just at another level than the other ends IMO.

Did you really just put Gray in the same category of underachievement as Phillips and Walters? Wow!

I literally read that and thought he might need to lay off the eight balls and booze....at least together.

Probably one of, if not THE dumbest things a poster has said.

Sorry but if you idiots think Gray so far is anywhere near a talent like Todd Gurley; then you need to lay off that burnt orange label and burnt orange powder.

He broke one long TD run running against some very poor defenses behind a very questionable OL, but UGA's OL wasn't very good either.

So far as far as their ages go, Gurley is very good to great while Gray is above average.

For a five star tounted top 10 recruit in the nation, that is slightly disappointing so far people.

I thought it was too soon coming off of injury to expect much out of Estelle during spring drills. He needs a full spring and summer to regain his upper body strength and get fully back into playing shape.

    gordosan

  • Question. Why would they take Cedric Reed out because he was beating Estelle? Estelle is a big boy and should be able to get better against tougher competition. This could be a microcosm of why every year people scream about Texas being soft. Just a thought.

Stop drinking, dude. Stop posting stupid drivel, too. Gray is a damn good back. Go look at his stats when sharing the ball with two guys ahead of him, and then how he looked when it was just him. Seriously, putting a true freshman who STARTED
In the same group as the others borderlines mental retardation.

  • Cottrell, Bluiett and Davis all sound like they are progressing. That's good after signing no DEs in 2013.

The same, however, can not be said for either Alex Norman or Paul Boyette. And that makes the future of the DT position look undermanned.

  • We don't need Norman this year, but we are in a world of hurt if he can't contribute next year. Bo needs to get his stuff together and shake the bushes nationally to find a couple of tackles who can play in 2014.

Norman has an outside chance but he really has to come on. If Boyette plays, it's trouble unless things change drastically.

No kidding. Gurley was the UGA RB and started 12 of their 14 games. Fantastic player certainly. Gray was a backup most of last year starting 5 games. No way to compare the two really but to put him in the bust category already is a bit extreme.

To even suggest that he's a bust is downright stupid on so many levels. That's seriously lacking air to the brain.

Gray is a stud and Malcolm Brown is a stud. You have to understand that the Texas Oline is inferior to Georgia's or any top SEC team right? Plus our Oline's splits last year were so close together for every run play in Harsin's offense it slowed things down from the get go. No holes or push from that group for most of the season. Also his offense was easy for our opponent's defenses to adjust too by telegraphing runs with shifts and overloading with a heavy sets etc.

Look at the schemes before you throw Gray under the bus. Both of Georgia's RB's are awesome but if you put them in our offense last year and they might not have been as productive. Plus their QB is a baller which makes their opponents defense play more honest vs Georgia. We all know Ash is still a work in progress and erratic at times so our opponents were able to load up box against our run plays and focus on ground game when he was off or rattled.

I would still like my odds on Gray if he got 222 carries. Great backs tend to break long late in the game.
