wow. He's flaky but he'd be a steal for a while. I've always thought he'd return to college coaching one day.

That would be a huge mistake, IMO. He would be an impact hire, but he won't provide future stability. He's 71 and never stayed anywhere long. He might not even last for a second year and get the team into the Big East. I think they would be much better off with a much younger coach ready to take on a challenge of big conference basketball.

How about hiring TJ Ford for that assistant position? I know he needs some hours for his degree but teams hire coaches all the time without their degree........

Not sure anything else needs to be said about the statement below from Yahoo Sports...
"Brown, 71, has already begun working to assemble a coaching staff with assistance from Kentucky coach John Calipari and Creative Arts Agency agent William Wesley."

Story is that he's trying to get Tim Jankovich (Illinois State head coach) hired as head coach in waiting with Rod Strickland (UK administrative assistant) and Jerrance Howard (former Illinois assistant) as the other two assistants.
I don't know about all of this. I just don't think a head coach in waiting is the way to go, Jankovich is the guy they should want long term, or that he would even want to leave a head coach position for a HCIW gig.

But I'm beginning to suspect SMU is having second thoughts about going through all this.

Agreed...the Yahoo Sports article seemed to be clear that Brown has the Portland job(s) as his top priority...have a feeling SMU believes Brown will take the their gig & then bolt for Portland over the summer
