SI article on Avery Bradley

  • I posted it in the Morning Headlines, but in case some people missed it there's a good article on Bradley's evolution today on SI.

Celtics' Avery Bradley evolving into much more than defense-first guard - Chris Mannix - SI.com

BOSTON -- As far back as Avery Bradley can remember, defense has always been his thing. In high school, when Bradley played in summer events that didn't allow full-court pressure, he would toe the half-court line, waiting to pick up. In college, Texas coach Rick Barnes would stick him on the opponent's top perimeter player. As a pro, Bradley would use garbage time minutes and stints in the D-League to show coaches he had a talent that could be tapped.

  • Imagine that.......Rick knows what the hell he's talking about. Nice to hear that Avery made it back to Austin as well.

  • I just wish he could have done some of his evolving while he was playing for Texas. hoops

  • "He's as good as anybody on the ball in the league, period," said Miami coach Erik Spoelstra. "He can guard baseline to baseline. He has incredible lateral quickness, as good as anybody I've seen."

    I agree.
I can't remember many with better lateral quickness.
    Maybe Deion.

  • Some say therr were ill-fitting parts to the team, but that season with Bradley will haunt Barnes forever. So much talent, so many parts, so much failure.

With hindsight, the Christmas decision to make that team into a halfcourt team with Balbay and Bradley in the backcourt has to be one of his worst ever. I can understand his reasoning as he wanted to compete for a national championship and didn't think he could win it with the style the team was playing, but man did the barrel fall through on the alternative.

I count Bradley as part of the Texas family, he busted his ass every night and Rick should have done better by that team. I for one am glad he is doing well in his chosen profession.

Agreed. Always been a fan of his. It'll be fun to watch him continue his NBA maturation in the playoffs.
