SEC coaches can't agree on scheduling for 14 team league

  • Seems like somebody is going to wind up unhappy, no matter how they do it. You would think that somebody would have worked this out before they added two teams to get to 14.

  • All of this trouble to ADD aggy? I can see it being worth it if it got rid of those guys, but color me confused.

SEC officially adopts 6-1-1 scheduling format - CBSSports.com

As expected, the SEC's presidents and athletic directors have adopted a 6-1-1 scheduling format that will preserve the conference's cross-division rivalries.

  • A&M will play the 6-1-1 model and South Carolina will be their yearly opponent. They rotate annually among the other 6. So they will only get the big power house team once every six years, which means they only get them at home once every 12 years.

Exactly. So, for all their bloviating about the SEC, the aggy fandom will be treated to exactly TWO big home games per year (2 of LSU, Bama, Arky, and Auburn), and a third big home game once every 12 years (Florida or Georgia). The rest of the schedule features the "who gives a flip" line-up of Miss State, Miss, South Carolina, and occassionally Vandy, Mizzou, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Big whoop!

Contrast that with IF aggy had stayed in the Big XII, where they would have annual games with Texas, OU, Okie State, Tech, Baylor, TCU, and quite possibly Florida State, Clemson, and maybe even ND or VaTech. If the name of the game is generating interest in the eyes of the recruits in your region, and you tell me which will generate more buzz. Nice foresight, aggy.

  • This is why I support going to 16 if you surpass 12. Fourteen just sucks.

  • The SEC is looking to be not so smart after adding two teams that just didn't belong for many reasons from the beginning.

  • The problem is that everyone else must live with a "rivalry" because of Tennessee-Alabama and Georgia-Auburn.

No reason that the other 10 couldn't rotate that spot. If you think you have a rivalry and find a partner, have at it, but if you don't, why force it?

  • wow. that's pretty stupid. when is this supposed to start? what's the over/under on this idea cratering? a year? aggy had better hope it doesn't start this year or next. Jadeveon Clowney, Marcus Lattimore, Connor Shaw, Ashlon Jeffrey, the OL.

South Carolina and aTm? uhhh okay. South Carolina's rival is and always will be in-state Clemson. aggy will not be playing Texas or their true rival(Tech) anytime soon. and no, as much as they want it, LSU is not their rival as much as they want them to be. LSU(and Slive's) interest is kicking their ass and telling every recruit in Texas they want about it. the same with Arkansas.

maybe it's aTm already getting pushed around(again) early, but i'm VERY surprised(actually shocked) aTm didn't didn't try and angle Vanderbilt or Kentucky as their cross rival and claim geographically it's closer. oh well. a nice expensive long road trip every other year with limited flight space, hotel rooms, and rental cars. enjoy aggy.
