I remember the headlines in the Dallas Morning News after the SMU game: "Roosevelt Leaks All Over the Field"

Leaks was one of my favorite players. Bill Wyman was the best center to play for Texas.

I was at the Tech and Baylor games . . . and watched the SMU game on TV. Rosie was awesome.

Though the UT wishbone era only lasted nine years, the Horns had three consensus All-American fullbacks over that time: Worster, Leaks, and Campbell. 1971 was the only one of those years in which the position was not manned by an eventual All-American.

Leaks was injured in the 1973 A&M game, but was well enough to hobble through the next game against Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl. He damaged his knee worse in the spring that followed, and was never the same. Still played 9 years in the NFL.

Bluebonnet bowl Texas vs CU? 1975. I used to have a super 8 talkie highlight or two but my ex wife would have it if it indeed still exists and there was anything to play it on. Included on that piece of magic though was an endzone shot view of the kickoff return razzle dazzle thing Fred had us doing then. Short man turns his back to the opponents and the two KO returners criss cross and he had it to one or the other or kept it himself. Went for like 70 yards on that one. Cinema magic lost forever.

My dad's all-time favorite Longhorn. He still swears to this day he'd take Leaks over Earl.
