Of course, the players' association could put a stop to this kind of thing in about a minute. All they have to do is tell the owners to add a new provision to the CBA--mandatory arbitration of player vs. player personal injury claims resulting from flagrant fouls. Let three active players sit as the panel, provided none of them are or have been a teammate of either party. Stick in a damages cap and a provision by which the panel may opt to step aside in the event it determines damages exceed the cap under which the panel operates. Does anyone think three randomly chosen NBA players wouldn't want to penalize the hell out of Artest for that? The first $500K award will put a quick end to flagrant fouls like that.
