Robert Griffin to the Redskins

  • Poor bastard

Source -- Washington Redskins acquire No. 2 overall pick from St. Louis Rams - ESPN

In a pre-draft blockbuster trade, tTthree first-round draft picks and a second-round pick as well, according to a source in Cleveland familiar with the terms of the deal.

  • At least Colt will get another shot at QB for the Browns and hopefully they will take Blackmon...No one knows what Colt can do at that level until he has weapons at WR...

  • That sucks for Colt. That means he's stuck in Cleveland. Griffin was his best chance to get the hell out of that shithole. Maybe Cleveland finally wises up and actually tries to put some offensive talent on the field with Colt.

  • Terrible trade. Griffin may or may not be good but he will have zero talent around him for several seasons.

Would like to see how Colt does if the Browns get Blackmon and a RB.

HAHA yeah right that organization is the aggy of the NFL. They will trade down and pick up spare ass Tannehill and take a corner a safety and a kicker with the picks. That sounds like a joke but In actuality trading down and taking tanny is prob what they will do.

Oh yeah Colt will then beat out tanny easily and still be stuck there with no talent around him

Agree, they gave up waaay too much in that trade.

I hope for Colt's sake that they draft some help for him and don't reach for a replacement (which in this case would be the worst scenario possible - Tannehill). It seems like they are pretty much done with the Colt experiment, but I hope I'm wrong.

  • This may be the worst trade I've ever seen in my life. Redskins front office once again shows their incompetence. The only reason I'm pissed is because the f'n Rams got away with highway robbery and they're in the NFC West. However, they have many more needs than a few first rounders can fill (obligatory that's what she said).

I know they have a lot of needs but I like their new GM and with Fisher now as coach, they will build a defense and a running game around Bradford. Wow...2 first round picks in 2012 and 2 seconds; 2 first round picks in 2013 and 2014...if you make the right moves, you can get good in a hurry...

The days of this division being called the NFC Worst are quickly coming to an end.

  • Redskins way overpaid since RG3 is still just a prospect. No one knows what he can do at the next level.

But I really, really like RG3 and he may turn out to be great. If he does people will view this trade like they do the Giants moving up to pick Eli Manning.

The pressure is really on the rams now. Everyone always talks about the Herschel Walker trade like it was a steal. It was essentially the same trade as the Eric Dickenson trade a couple of years earlier. Jimmy Johnson used his picks on Emmett Smith and Darren Woodson, etc...The rams used their picks on Gaston Green and Aaron Cox, etc...

Let's see how this one plays out in a few years.

  • Not sure I'd give up 3-1st round & 1-2nd round pick for Griffin...but Washington prefers to build through free agency instead of the draft...& they have about $45M - $50M in extra salary cap space to use

They'll draft RGIII & put over-priced free agents around him

  • Truly hard to believe that Andrew Luck (of Houston, TX) will be taken #1 & RGIII (of Copperas Cove, TX) taken #2 in the draft...& neither offered by The University of Texas

You think that Mike Holmgren, of all people, doesn't realize they don't have any offensive talent? Think it easy to lure FA to Cleveland? They have about a dozen holes on that team and thats being conservative. That doesn't get fixed in two years.

With free agency, you never know what they can do for sure. One thing for sure, the Rams are set to build a powerhouse.

  • I guess I will be in the minority, but that is a GREAT move by the Redskins.

I don't see how Luck is that much better a prospect than Griffin on the field. Off the field (as the face of a franchise), Griffin is exactly what the Redskins need. He will put people in the stands and is a player that they can build around.

I feel bad for Griffin, but he is exactly the kind of kid I would want to build a team around in terms of athletic talent and PR potential.

  • I don't disagree with the pick but the Redskins have a lot of needs and losing their next 3 first round picks is too steep for me...They have also shown the inability to evaluate free agents for years...This is a recipe for disaster...

On 2nd thought, I hate the Redskins so have at it...

That's exactly what I'm saying! This makes no sense to me. It seems like Harsin and Applewhite are doing a better job of evaluating than the previous staff though.

I agree with you...It was a steep price to pay but the Skins haven't had a franchise QB in two decades. They also have a ton of cap space so will be very active in the free agency market to put players around him. Unfortunately for me as a 'Skin fan, as someone else else mentioned, they haven't done so well in the past with their free agent evaluations.

Luck was quoted many months ago as saying that when he and his father, Oliver, visited Stanford as a boy and met Bill Walsh that his mind was already made up that he wanted to go to Stanford. That was always his hearts desire. That same thought was also mentioned way back on some earlier threads elsewhere when Luck was a junior at Stratford that Texas was considered, but not really his hearts desire. When Stanford offered, it was an automatic. That is why Mack did not offer him. Mack knew about all the behind the scenes information and could not win the battle.

For real. I like the kid as well, but c'mon. There's no prospect ever in a draft that you give up that much for. Too many busts have happened for that crap. I can't wait to see Luck in an Indy jersey, though.
