Just my two cents....
There were others around, but I was able to talk directly to Derick when he made these comments. I would say that we shouldn't over analyze every statement a kid makes.
Initially, I was surprised by his answer about taking other visits too. But the way I understood it as I talked to him, and after listening back to the recording multiple times, I would gauge those comments more as "I can't predict what the future holds, but I'm a solid Longhorn commit".
After talking to him for a few minutes I got the feeling that he really does like Texas a lot. He sounded as if going to Texas and getting a degree results in a brighter guaranteed future than having a chance to have a career playing football after Texas.
I also thought that Derick had a very fun-loving personality. His team had just blown out a team by 70+ points to finish the season undefeated in district. He was having a lot of fun with his teammates on the bench, nothing close to being disrespectful, just enjoying the victory. Going from that mindset to having every word you say be analyzed in just a minute or two is a drastic transition.
Basically, he talking glowingly about the program and how enjoyed his visit for 120 of the 122 seconds, but the other two seconds is what sparked this interest.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Oh, and there was more Texas gear in the stands than any other college on the Brennan side. Just worth noting.
Texas stuck with him when he got kicked of the team so he should stick with Texas.
I guess this raises the question regarding Mack's commitment policy. Does Mack start looking around if a recruit merely talks about taking visits or does the recruit actually have to take a visit before Mack starts looking for an equal or greater player?
The SEC of signatures....
