Realignment - Baylor stands in way

  • Tex(Aus) said...

good for Baylor. they're standing up for what's best for them. aTm isn't "doing what's in their best interest". the LHN was the last straw in living the shadow of Texas. that's chickenshit and i don't blame Baylor one bit for being concerned what happens if/when the conference disintegrates or sticking it to aTm.

aTm has also been extremely disrespectful forever in athletics to Texas, Tech, and Baylor. i am ALL for Baylor making it as big of a pain in the ass and/or delay as possible.

who said "double standard". Texas had an open invitation to the Big 10 PAC 10 and SEC(if we ever wanted it[never]). aTm bitched, threatened legislation, suit, etc. unless we took them with us when neither the Big 10 or PAC 10 wanted them. remember that aggies? so, aggy, cry us a river and complain if Baylor is in your way. i'm glad they're doing it. i hope it gets even more complicated.

  • Bobby, in your opinion, is Baylor trying to get the best severance package it can, or are they really hopeful of keeping the league together? If the latter, do you think there is at least a decent shot to keep it together for another couple years? (I think UT and OU stay if ATM does.)

Not how it happened. Pac woul not allow the LHN so the deal was terminated. We did not threaten to sue, just said if you go to the Pac we will not follow but will instead go to the SEC. Don't pretend you were looking out for us or the Big 12.

He's talking about the original formation of the Big 12. Texas was prepared to leave you behind, but you got your sheep balls in a wad and threw a hissy fit.

Hopeful of keeping the league together as long as they can and then best positioning themselves for another conference long-term.

They win for a couple of years, drive up attendance by 5-10k and all of a sudden Baylor could potentially look at the Big East or some nomad conference like that.

I do agree with choog on if the PAC-10 at the time had let us have LHN last year, our Longhorns would be entering the first year of the PAC-16 play this year.

  • Here's an update.

    Big 12 or Pac-12?

With Texas As invitation to the SEC at least momentarily blocked, is there a chance the Big 12 stays intact? If not, is Texas destined for the Pac-12?

Texas had not signed the LHN at that time. The Pac-12 idea dissolved last year because it got messy when A&M didn't want to go to the Pac-16.

Ahhh, noted. I'm not sure about those details during that time.

that's a pretty funny article, shows just how much some people don't know.

"So let's get this straight: Texas would not go to the Pac 12 because Texas pols like Rick Perry won't be able to get past their fawning admiration for east coast academia?"

There are reasons Texas might not join the Pac 12, but it's not because they're in love with east coast academia.

that's not what happened. the LHN was not in place or even close to being. the problem was aTm didn't want to be left behind in a deterriorating Big 12 while Texas went to the PAC 10 or BIG 10, both of which we had open offers from, but ZERO interest in aTm. aTm bitched and threatened Texas. they said they would Legislatively block it unless we took them with us as luggage. "we're joined at the hip." they were NOT offered by the SEC and the new Big 12 deal was formed after NU and CU left and Texas stayed. NU and CU and paid the exit penalties and went their ways. part of the exit $ aTm received. WE saved the conference and their ass.

now, a year later, Baylor is doing something similar to keep THEM from leaving except w/ the threat of a lawsuit against them and possibly the SEC with a powerful attorney which they probably can't get out of. at least not cheaply and looking clean. do you see the hypocricy? i realize Texas apparently doesn't care, but unless there's a deal alreadt in place w/ the PAC 10 or a replacement, i'd be blocking that as payback or make it as expensive as possible for their broke ass athletic department. eff-them. and even if they get out of it, stop trying to be a tight ass cheapskate and asking for a discount. this deal is a year old.

  • For a confernece that supposedly wants into Texas badly, they sure are attaching a crap load of string to aggy's invite.

  • Now, it looks like there are 6 schools who will not waive anything...per 1430 AM radio in Tulsa.

If OU recommits to the BIG12, they schools will sign the waiver

  • "At some point, it was brought up that 'so, A&M won't be able to play in the SEC next season at all then, I guess.' Beebe chimed in (basically), 'Well they won't be playing here either.'"

oh sh!t! tell me that's not made up. how funny would that be?
