  • Of everything mentioned, the most exciting is Blaine Irby. OMG are you kidding me?

    Nemesis_Prime

  • I expected the secondary to be suspect, you don't lost 3 NFL players and replace them over night.

I think the Case McCoy is what is best for the team is very interesting. He seems to be the guy in all of the pictures with the players and seems well liked.

Not surprised about DJ Grant, he was very physical in the blocking game in the spring game and if his WR skills are still there then he should be our starter with Irby being situational on 3rd downs I would guess.

Bryant Jackson to WR is a disappointment to me, I thought he could be special at safety. Hopefully the coaches know best because after seeing Mykkele Thompson in the THSCA game, he looked like a bonafied stud on offense.

  • 2 things stood out for me:

Jaxon Shipley returning punts (maybe) has Mack ever let a true freshman return punts?

Case McCoy................that seems like a continuation of the Spring Game. I wonder if its because Case looks good or the other 3 look bad?

  • Case, like his brother just seems to be a type of guy that is a natural leader.

After last year, I'm sure we can sacrifice a little talent at the position for the sake of having someone who will make everyone around him better.

    Yes, #23.

  • i'm discouraged about bryant jackson's move...especially if the secondary isn't looking great.

  • 2011 pass def = 80th in nation @ best

The drop off @ QB is remarkable...to go from VY to Colt to who knows is mind-blowing...to the point of just asking for avg QB play for 2011...never gave much consideration to the chances of Danny White being reincarnated @ Texas, but I'm starting to wonder if David Ash will be the starting QB/P @ some point this season

  • Fascinating reports. Thanks. I'm amazed (well, not really) at the difference between various reports on the QB's. Can't wait to see how this all shakes out. As for the DB's, I have great confidence in Akina and his ability to put them in the right position to optimize the talent and develop the youth. They will get better over the next 3 weeks and first few games.

    Bevo11

  • Did he say anything about how Myk Thompson is looking at DB? Someone else's report had him looking great at DB so would be interesting to see this pov. I guess it's clear the staff likes him better at DB than they did B Jackson

  • Thanks, Bobby. I'm one of those who will readily admit that I am in no position to second guess what the UT coaches decide. I've never understood why folks who never see practices insist on getting all worked up about depth chart issues or position changes. As for the comment about the THSCA All Star game, one of the most impressive players I ever saw in that game was Rhett Bomar. How much did that mean for his college career?

    * Kheeston Randall looks like a million bucks.

I've seen him around the apartments a few times this summer, and he definitely looks like a guy who's ready for his NFL audition this fall. Two things that have stood out as signs of his commitment to his senior season: 1) it doesn't take much to get him to give a glowing review of Bennie Wylie and 2) it doesn't take long for the alcohol to start flowing at the pool on a given weekend - if Randall is letting loose, he's certainly not doing it in public.

  • I am amazed (really) at the thought of everyone seeing a different qb looking good in practice! This really is a bad sign imo. If one guy isn't consistently looking like the guy at this point I believe we are in real trouble!

    lombard_dup

  • Its obvious some of you have a hard time comprehending exactly what I meant. I don't care about the downvote but if you are going to disagree and respond at least disagree and respond to what I typed. I never said Case wasn't intelligent, or didn't have a good football IQ or pedigree. I agree he does have those things. What I said was, the last time we saw him in game action, his mechanics were way off, and as we all should know by now he doesn't have a strong arm.

Now unless you think his intelligence or football IQ is going to allow him to overcome his obvious deficiencies we have been shown so far I'm not sure how you can think Case is the guy long term. The comparison to Kellen Moore seems to be the one people like to make, but in watching both I still believe their are some passes Kellen Moore makes that I am not sure Case could. Now he can prove me wrong, and if he is the guy then I hope that is the case but until shown otherwise I see no reason to jump on the Case bandwagon.

  • Any early indicators about who has the inside track on the starting CB spots? I assume we're going to enjoy another year of Scott and Gideon at safety.

  • I was hoping for Mykkele to get a chance at wr but I hear he is looking real natural at cb. I'm going to trust the coaches on this one. I think Akina wants to turn him into an All American. Playing on both sides might not be so beneficial to his progress. I still think they could have a package or two for him. How are his hands?

  • The Horns will score lots of points this year, but also give up lots of points.

Get ready for a real inconsistent defense.....and that's if our pass rush is going to be as good as I think it will be.

Our secondary is going to get torched all season people, it is just the nature of the college game.

    Willow01

  • Bobby, did your guy say anything about Ash? I'm curious about what kind of reps he's getting and how he's looking. I'm also curious how the team is responding to him versus the other qb's? Thanks for the info.

    Top5Pick

  • I think our front seven is going to be as good, if not better, than any other defense in the big 12-2. The secondary is a concern but on the other side of things, our wide recievers must be showing some ability early on which is very encouragin. We just need to be patient for a little while and these guys will catch up. Diaz' attacking style will help support a young core of cb's. I'm not so worried about our safties. I don't necessarily thinkwe are going to be a high scoring offense but I am happy to be wrong.
