Possible Early Entrants to NFL?

  • Barring lockout of course who would be on your list?

AJ Williams and Malcolm Williams would top my list.
    Keenan would be next
If Emmanuel wasn't an Acho he would be next but they seem like 4 year players.
Darkhorses would be Randall, Gideon, Scott

  • yeah AJ almost definitely leaves, barring some weird lockout scaring him off. Malcom I could see but don't yet. Everyone else is doubtful. Gideon though? That's a pretty damn dark horse.

  • I think AJ is alone on that list for now.

  • Kheeston Randall is an interesting name. I think he's going to have a monster year.

  • Gideon? ummm...negative.

  • malcolm williams?????

i would think the only viable candidates are williams, and maybe randall.

i would give the chances of anyone else going early at 0%.

  • Malcolm Williams isn't going anywhere until he proves he can actually catch a ball.

  • The argument I have for Gideon is he is coming off a good sophomore year stats wise. After this year is when I think he will be rated at his highest point. The reason being is that its going to be quite easy for him playing safety with AJ, Chykie, and Curtis as the CBs in front of him. He should be able to at least replicate what he did last year but I honestly expect a better year. If he comes back he might be looking at 3 new corners playing in front of him. We know Chykie and Curtis are gone, AJ most likely, so he will have more responsibility and his production could experience a drop off imo. But he is a dark horse for a reason, I don't expect him to go, but IMO he most likely should barring lockout after this year because I think it gives him his best shot at getting drafted at a decent spot.

  • Aaron Williams and maybe Randall.

  • Aaron Williams leaving early is a scary thing. You hate to replace all 3 of your top corners in one year. We'll have great talent, but not much experience. It could dampen the MNC hopes for that year.

I would love for Williams to come back, but I suspect he's going to be a high 1st rounder. He's a sick talent.

  • I'd guess maybe A. Williams, and possibly K. Randall and Keenan Robinson if they have HUGE years. Like I said though, I'm just guessing here.

  • Take this for what it's worth, but a few months back I was at a party here in DC and met a guy that works for the NFLPA. I asked him about early draft entrants, with AJ in mind, and he said they felt the lockout was a near certainty and that given the timing of when the lockout would occur, which would be after players had to declare but before the draft, that most underclassmen would not enter the draft.

I am holding out hope that the NFL labor issues will allow us to keep the guys that would leave in a normal year.

I see your logic here. Just not sure that even a good year like last year will be able to get him drafted. Plus there's the measurables at the combine.

But I like 2011 a lot more if AJ comes back. 2012 going to be big with our OL coming together I think.

Even mentally retarded scouts will be able to look at film on Gideon and realize he shouldn't even be starting at Texas, much less any NFL team. No gimme interceptions that fall in his lap will overwhelm the film of him taking the wrong angle to the hole on a ballcarrier or whiffing on guys at their ankles.

Interesting take, but definitely could have an impact. Aaron is a top ten pick without question if he leaves early. No one else is lock for the first round, which should be the bar for early entry. I agree Randall is the only other that is even a possiblity. Gideon is not a pro prospect.

Man, just saw this. Great stuff considering who it came from and yep, that could change things greatly.

  • I have also heard that the NFL lockout could be a huge consideration for underclassmen leaving. Common sense when you think about it, but it hadn't dawned on me till a month ago when it was brought to my attention.

  • Okay, here is another take on this topic...which player that could go pro, after having a big year on the field....would likely mean the Horns had a huge year?

GG would be my first pick, but I do not think he'd ever go after his soph year.

But that would lead me to my next pick, Malcolm Williams. If Malcolm has a big enough year to be able to consider a jump to the league, I think that means Texas has an incredible year and we winsome hardware.

Of course, a far less likely candidate would be Cody Johnson....imagine if he becomes the primary back and runs for 1500 ids and 20 TDs. Not likely, but it would mean a great year for the Horns on the field.

GG can't go, you have to be 3 years removed from your graduating class, therefore a RS SO or True Junior. Don't think Cody has the ability to be a top pick in the draft, I just don't think he has elite tools(feet/burst) for his frame. Williams is a definite possibility, he has all the physical tools just needs to showcase it consistently during games.

  • I think the whole NFL angle will be interesting this year. Not just for the Horns but across the nation. That could make 2011 the best year for talent in college football in quite a while if some big names truly are forced to stay in school.

Who comes out the big winner nationally if kids stay in school? I'd guess Stanford for sure with Andrew Luck, but there has to be a number of teams that would be affected.
