Pollard Questions

  • Okay I don't think there will be decision made today. So I guess we go with what we got and check who signed up for each classes in summer and fall. The team is really good anyway IMO.

  • Since it looks like there will be no signing what happens now? Can schools no longer contact him? Do you really just wait and see if comes to your campus and signs up for classes. Basically how does this work? if it does at all. By the way I really like the current team and this seems to be more trouble than it's worth.

Dead period May 17-26, I think. After that, contact away until the next dead period, but he's out of official visits, isn't he?

So during this dead period he can sign an LOI and backdate it he just can't talk to the coaches.

  • Another possibility is that someone came late in the game. LSU where his favorite coach from Georgetown went or Kentucky coming in late. As I said before this guy went from Televising his decision from his high school to not signing at all. I think those two options may have occured.

  • While I have no reason to think a delay might not be caused by Pollard wanting to take a look at LSU, I don't think Pollard ever scheduled a televised announcement. I thought the closest we got to a statement of intention to announce came from the coach who said in the first week of May that he thought Pollard would announce by the end of last week, but he soon recanted and said everything is running through Pollard's mom.

I thought Gerry said that at one time but I could be thinking of someone else. Curious to see where he ends up. I agree with the guy above, these long dragged out things never go Texas way, so I am expecting him to land somewhere else.

  • ESPN Insider posted the following tonight
"With Amile Jefferson headed to Duke, lanky forward Devonta Pollard (De Kalb, Miss./Kemper County High) is the top recruit still on the board for 2012, and the belief is that two schools currently are in the lead.

The Sporting News reports that Pollard is "believed to be down to Texas and Alabama but hasn't ruled out Mississippi State, Missouri or Georgetown."

"Missouri doesn't have any scholarships at this point, and Georgetown assistant coach Robert Kirby is leaving for LSU, which could hinder the Hoyas," adds Jeff Borzello of CBSSports.com.

If Pollard chooses Texas, the Longhorns' tremendous class (already ranked No. 4 by ESPN) would add a fifth player in the ESPNU 100.

    - Joe Kaiser"

Nothing really new but Texas is still in the conversation.

i have seen this before but it is not something new that I haven't heard before. You can find several others that say something different. I am not saying Texas is not in it but I am saying that in the end he will end up somewhere else.

  • Okay I have a couple of recruiting questions. Say Devonta decides he wants to sign with Texas; how would that even work if there is a dead period right now? Doesn't that mean no contact? Could he even call and say what is your fax number? And what is the quite period? What are you allowed to due then? Not familiar at all with this process so any info would be helpful.

During a quiet period, recruiting is limited to on campus stuff only, unofficial or official visits...no off campus contact, evaluations, etc

During a dead period, coaches cannot have any in-person contacts with recruits...phone calls, letters, are acceptable

  • Two signing periods: a week in November and five weeks in the spring.

After the spring period ends, the individual may sign scholarship agreements with as many schools as he likes and show up at his choice.

Gerry has pointed out many times that there is an extended time after the period ends for submitting the letter, so it's easy to get around the rules if you choose.

Yea I think he said 20 or more days he can back date the LOI to May 16th.

So when you think about it; Coach Barnes could be talking to Pollard's mom right now.
