Players' post-game comments -- Shipley, Reed, Walters

  • Some select players spoke with Texas' radio broadcast crew following the game.

    Jaxon Shipley
We wanted to come out there and get a win for the seniors tonight...They've been out there all year and we've been looking up to those guys..Unfortunately we didn't get a win and we're just looking to bounce back next week.

We had some plays that were really good and then we had some plays that weren't' so good. We had some things go our way and then we'd fumble or throw an interception and kill the momentum. We had an alright day offensively getting it down in the red zone, but we couldn't get it in the endzone and that's the most important thing.

We're coming back this Sunday, going to watch film and fix all the mistakes that we made. And hopefully bounce back next week and try to get a win.

On the toughest adjustment to being an every-down player at DE:
The biggest adjustment was just trying to gain trust in my teammates on defense. I knew I could play out there with these guys, I just needed to find trust with my teammates.

I've got to give it up to [Trevone Boykin], he was a mobile guy. One play I had him in my hands and I blinked and he was gone...But we've been playing against running quarterback all year long. We're going to regroup and we're going to get it fixed.

Playing alongside Jackson Jeffcoat and Alex Okafor:
It's been a great learning experience leaning from those guys.

They were athletic and physical. They all played really well, they all played assignment football...They stacked the box at times...When you bring that many in the box, if you break one it's only going to go for nine or ten instead of 20 or 30.

We understand that we can't turn into a one-dimensional offense. We have to go back and look at the film and see what we can do to get better on both sides.

We're going to be pumped and ready to go. This is disappointing for everyone, but we understand that we have a chance to go to Manhattan and play a really good football team next week.

No they do not…taking too freaking much Zoloft, or maybe their coaches have a zoloft effect on them. This team is not ready to play and at times quits. Time for a change in leadership because the kids are not buying what the coach is selling anymore. Happens to the best of them.

Sounds like they've adopted the Mack Brown standard.

You can't? You did! You can be one dimensional if you run the ball.

Go back and learn to block and tackle; game is pretty simple if you do that.

"no he didn't"...I mean, that has to be one of the lamest excuses I've ever heard. Even on replay Jackson Shipley was holding his hands up for McCoy to throw it with three players on him, I guess McCoy didn't react to that at all thinking that he was playing some video game where Jaxon magically was going to catch whatever he threw up in the air? The bottom line is the coverage was such that he had no business making that throw at all. Throw it or run it out of bounds and live for another down. Case was trying to much to be the "hero" and that got him in trouble this time.

And this should not be surprising, since he threw the game losing interception at Kansas, but the Kansas player just happened to drop it.

Yeah, Jaxon definitely got Case to throw him the ball at the last moment. Unfortunately, Jaxon made little attempt to fight for it. A step or two toward the ball and he might have been the one to come up with it. Instead, he just stood there. Not much fighter mentality in this team.

Agree. I'm getting tired of the ragging on Case. He may not be the answer but he's out there because the starter didn't pull his weight either. Why is Ash getting a break on throwing key picks. The way I see it we just dont have a difference maker at qb right now. Ash has shown the abilty at times to "drive the bus" but he's had way too much playing time to make excuses for anymore.
Frankly, nobody pulled their complete weight in that game. To tag the loss on Case is BS.
