Players' post-game comments -- Ash, Gray, Davis

  • David Ash
As a team we've experienced a lot more together. There's no substitute for experience. Just going through last year and having an offseason and putting in hard work over the summer molded us together...The biggest difference you'll see in our games is the close ones, we're tending to win more of them. We're starting to grow up and win the close ones at the end of the game.

They gave us the look for a pass...We figured we'd have a one-on-one matchup with someone, the offensive line did a great job protecting, I threw a duck to the corner and Mike Davis mad a great play...It was a very valuable touchdown, we need those points, the game was close.

Last weekend was really disappointing. I really had to rely on my faith to come back this week and work as hard as I could. It was great because my community on the team, the guys supporting me to get back...Really just encouraged me throughout the week to work hard...I decided I already had my answer and how I was going to play my game.

I saw my dad in the stands earlier and I saw he had a Texas Tech hat on...My team came out here and played great.

Early on we started making plays..Tech started making plays and keeping the ball more...We picked it up at the end and came out with a win.

It seems like we play a little bit harder when we're on the road. Everybody's against us. It's us against them...We've got to come out with wins.

I hope I get to come back home. It's a house divided. They're cool parents and I love them to death.

They showed a lot of man....We practiced a lot of man looks in practice. That prepared us for today and we came out and made plays.

He killed the play to switch to another. I kind of felt like the ball wasn't supposed to go to me, but if it was in the air and coming to me I'd make a play for him.

We picked him up all through the week in practice. David's been handling it very well. He's back to his old self and came out and played great today.

I just knew we had to come out here and compete. We knew it going to be a great fight...We knew had to compete and just do our jobs.

I'm surprised Gray's dad is staying loyal to his alma mater over his own son (somebody in another thread said that his dad was quoted this week as saying he wanted Tech to win, and then this quote from Johnathan about his dad wearing a Tech hat to the game).

Gray had a great game, and the whole team looked good today. Now if they can repeat that effort for the rest of the season.

FWIW, Gray was joking about that last comment. And he said the thing about the hat with a laugh. Doesn't seem like it's a big deal to him.

I'm sure it's not a big deal to him and I really don't think his dad's a bad guy or anything, but it does surprise me he rather his son lose because he went to Tech (unless the dad was joking about wanting Tech to win).

  • I wouldnt pass judgment based on these little observations. This doesnt mean that he doesnt root for Johnathan all the other games in the season. I wouldnt expect him to show up in Longhorn colors just to root for Johnathan.

I absolutely do. If one of my sons go to OU or ATM, I'm rooting for his success. I'd be honest it would be hard but my sons happiness is everything period. All that said, it was meant as a joke he was happy his son played well and won. Hookem

  • People that know James, know that he's a great guy.

  • If my son went to OU or Aggy I would want him to tear it up against Texas and lose the game every time. I could never root for either of those teams. If my son were good enough to go to OU or Aggy I would encourage him to go to another school to avoid that situation. ;)

  • Saw a picture of James Gray.

He was wearing a Tech hat and a custom made shirt about the Gray legacy. Had a picture of himself running for Tech and a picture of Johnathan running for Texas. Text: "The Gray Legacy Continues"

  • I am sure he was having some fun with it. I can promise you every time J Gray for the ball he was rooting it ended in the end zone. This is much ado about nothing

Exactly Hookem Mr Grey and Grey Jr. Imagine how good he'll be by the time he leaves the 40 Acres.
