**Paden Kelley decides to stop playing football**

It's Mc Whorter's fault the kid has personal problems?

Really now. Little pissy tonight Bobby?

In addition to his many personal problems he was also not a very good offensive linemen.

I guarantee the fact that he flat out sucks played more of a role in this decision than any "personal reasons".

Then it is going to be more than one additional player on the line.

    Ay Dios mio!

  • I'll say it again because I absolutely relish downvotes from the idiots on the site that can't see the forest through the trees. This is outstanding news on so many levels. Everyone should be happy about this.

He sucked off the field as much as much as he sucked on it and now the coaches don't have to expend the effort to babysit his ass and can move forward to coaching someone that is actually productive.

Texas may lose some money from the Lake Travis lobby but will gain on the field which will produce dividends off of it. Imagine if we hadn't made the Garrett Gilbert mistake. There's a few more pieces on the board we have to sacrifice but it will be well worth it. Send 'em packing Mack.

That is so wildly wrong and unfair I can't see straight. Maybe his recruits didn't pan out, but that happens to everyone. He produced some great players. They just happened to be recruited by others. But he was the one that, you know, coached them up.

11th player from the 2009 class to quit playing or transfer...& I expect more attrition before training camp

Wonder what the 09 Class was rated ?

Probably Top 5 - which tells you what bullchit those ratings are.

  • I remember seeing his picture when he was recruited and thinking he looked really soft.

you are probably the only one who would say that McWhorter was a good coach at Texas.

Nevermind the fact that none of the players he evaluated have made a significant impact at Texas. He gets a pass because he "coached" a grand total of 5 players (Blalock, Hills, Sendlein, Studdard, and Scott) who made an impact at Texas in his 8 seasons.

    I looked it up - it's hilarious - it was a Top 5 Class - #5

Here's the blurb on it from Rivals:

    5 Texas
Head of the Class: QB Garrett Gilbert, DE Alex Okafor.
Buzz: Texas landed three in-state five-star recruits in Gilbert, Okafor and offensive lineman Mason Walters. Further bolstering that in-state dominance, the Longhorns landed one of the state's best defenders in Calvin Howell, a great possession receiver in Greg Timmons, a jumbo athlete in Chris Whaley and a shut-down corner in Marcus Davis. Texas also added depth to the offensive line beyond Walters with Thomas Ashcraft, Garrett Porter and Paden Kelley and two of the nation's best tight ends in Barrett Matthews and Trey Graham. After Oklahoma snatched up some of the state's best in 2008, the Longhorns locked down the state in 2009.
Big fish that got away: LB/DE Jarvis Jones (to USC).

Me again - WOW - recruiting is a crap shoot at best - and these guys REALLY sucked on their judge of talent.

"Two of the nations best tight ends" "Longhorns locked down the state in 2009"

    Yeah right !!!!

Considering Mack brought the program full circle back to the Mackovic era I think Mack is becoming a little concerned with his legacy.

Right or wrong without a few championships in the next few years he'll be the Vince Young head coach and nothing more.

Did he quit school? Football isn't everything to everyone. I quit playing golf so I could spend more time with my family on Saturdays. Priority choices does not a quitter make.

false equivalency. the university commited considerable time and resources into him, consequently denying the same oppportunity to others, in exchange for a mutual commitment. he did indeed quit and although it's not a great crime, i'm not convinced of any genuine hardship for a priveledged kid from lake travis who also enjoys a free education.

I think I'll wait til the dust settles on guys rumored to be going before updating stuff. That said, it's very unlikely any class will surpass '06 in failure rates. Both these two players were already in the "miss" category, and have merely shifted over to "attrit"...

It is looking unbelievably thin at OT when Doyle is your first backup.

Either estelle or hughes or another juco are going to play. We could sign two more guys for '13 at OT if we could find them...

I have to say, I thought PK had turned a corner...

  • It's about time. *flush* One less LT kid on the roster.

We'll hear the same thing from Doyle two years from now. Although he seems to at least be a good kid.

    Balogna.

Show me someone, anyone, else who recruits for a prestigious football program who has literally had ZERO of his recruits get drafted and coached for as long as he did. Then realize his recruits make the largest proportion of the players on the field.

His failure as a recruiter is historically bad. His coaching could not be much better. Remember Nebraska '09? Our OL was consistently our biggest weakness once the guys he inherited left.

Trying to defend Macwhorter is laughable. I can't believe you are even attempting it on a Longhorn board. You might as well start a thread claiming that A&M will dominate the SEC or that Bob Stoops should be the next coach here.

  • If you couldn't tell I'm just going to let everyone know that I'm ecstatic about this news. We have one more worthless Lake Travis player on the roster and a few other similar type offers that need to be "medically" retired to be back to where we need to be.

If you don't realize the eat or get eaten nature of college football you need to wake up. The new Big 12/SEC alliance doesn't allow for wide spread mistakes that the previous staff made. If Texas wants to be successful nationally then trimming the fat is a necessary evil. Embrace it.
