PLAYOFFS!!!!!

  • We finally got a four team play-off!

  • There is a whole lot of opinion in that article. About the only thing settled right now is that the commishes want a 4 team playoff. All of the other stuff is being worked out.

But the fact that there is agreement among the consensus of commishes on 4 team playoff is huge news.

It just seems like the only non-bias form of ranking though

Weren't we pulling for the computers to make up for the human element that voted OU ahead of us though?

Garbage in, garbage out. There is no such thing as an unbiased computer evaluation or model. They always reflect the biases of the people writing the code.

  • As long as they have a human vote involved in the selection, itll end up with the same way. They should encourage conferences to combine enough to make 8 conferences and allow the 8 champs in the playoff. No votes to worry about. Win your conference and youre in. Some conferences may be tougher than others and that will pay off in the regular season TV deals, but other than that, seed them and let it fly.

Agree. Also they don't watch any of the games.

    Hookem89

  • Agree Coaches Poll must be deleted because they watch very few games games if any. ND needs to be deleted until it joins an elite conference

  • i'll believe it when it happens.

95% of college football fans have wanted a playoff for the last 20+ years. now i'm almost where have you been?

#5 in the eqaution gets f@cked. you tell me who it's going to be?

    -#2 SEC
    -The Big 12 Champ
    -The ACC Champ
    -The PAC 10 Champ
    -The Big 10 Champ
    -Notre Dame
    - an undefeated team such as Boise

exciting until you're #5 or #6. there isn't room. it's likely to be a problem every season.

*the SEC voters and those in the East will vote a one-loss SEC team over anyone in the Big 12 almost every year. they'll claim they play in a power conference and Texas doesn't.

*the East and the Midwest are Notre Dame's baby. they won't be the one donkey punched all things close or even. especially now that they've been in the sh!tter for awhile,

*the West will not vote for Texas and are bitter we didn't join the PAC 10.

our option is start high, look good, and finish high. this system is a start, but it sucks for us right now if it happens.

If you're # 5 or 6 it's because you've lost 2 games &/or you didn't play anyone in your OOC schedule. If that's the case, you don't deserve to be in a play-off for the National Championship... As for Boise St., they have one more year in the MWC & then headed to the Big East, so they will have a legit shot starting in 2013.

The Coach's Poll should be abolished... there's no place for the favoritism!

Who are your 8 conferences and who is in them? Who gets left out? Who is in charge of aligning these teams into conferences and do schools lose their sovereignty? How many teams are in each conference and how does Miami of Ohio feel about being in a conference with Ohio St and Michigan?

    Your proposal isn't realistic.

Its very realistic. We already have the B12, B10, P12, SEC, ACC, BIG East, Sun Belt, MAC, WAC, MWC, CUSA. If presented with an 8 champs in model, there is a viable way to get all the conferences to an equal number. I need more time to say who goes where though.

Anyone that doesnt win their conference would get left out. If your not in one of the mentioned conferences now, you cant be in. The presidents would be in charge of aligning the teams. How many teams i dont know, thats up to the presidents but whatever it takes to get to 8. Miami of Ohio wouldnt care, they would actually have a real chance to win the MNC when the season starts. Right now, they have no chance. That being said, are they an FBS school or are they a step down?

This is the only way youre not going to have voters or a selection panel. Every other way is going to bring opinions into the fold and thats what has us here in the first place.

    No.

It was idiot herd-mentality sports writers who valued style points over results on the field. That and Stoops coaching tree shenanigans in the coach's poll.

I disagree. It was a 30 yard out route that wasnt well defended along with a dropped INT by Gideon that put you in that position in the first place.

No, that should have been irrelevant.

All that did was even the overall record. With even records, you'd think head-to-head results on a neutral field would matter.

I don't want to rehash this again, thats pointless. I was just pointing out how lazy it is for sports writers to "blame the computers" when human polling accounts for twice as much as the computers. If the sports writing community as a whole wasn't such a mass of ignorant herd-mentality mouth breathers, the computer results wouldn't have mattered.

  • To me, the second biggest news besides the play-offs is the fact that the Cotton Bowl is in the Championship rotation. I love the idea of having a championship in our backyard.

If you want an 8-team playoff, the best model would be the 6 current BCS conference winners plus two at large. That way the atlarges can be a second team in a major conference or a MWC/CUSA team, depending on the landscape year to year. Theoretically that way every single FBS school gets a shot, and you don't force any unwanted or unnatural realignment.
