I'm probably wrong but... there has got to be some former HS soccer player currently on campus that could punt that far and would love to play as a non-scholly player.
I'm pretty sure King is a walk-on, so he's not costing us a schollie and he actually has experience punting a football in a live game.

You're pretty sure?? Hmmm, how do you know? When coaches go out & solicit this kid to come to Texas, usually a scholarship is involved. Besides, Texas is under the limit (of 85) going into the summer/fall year, so it really doesn't matter!

Are you pretty sure he's not? does it say in that article that he is on scholly? BevoBeat says walk-on.
The Longhorns announced Wednesday that punter Alex King, who appeared in 24 career games at Duke before graduating with a degree in history, has enrolled in graduate school at Texas and will walk on the football team for his final...

I'm not saying he is or isn't! Besides, it really doesn't matter since Texas will be under the limit.

Damn.....This sounds like an argument that I have with my wife about once a month....I get so confused that I usually just turn around and walk off, talking to myself !!!!!!!!
You know what, I guess I'm wrong. I was fairly certain I read here or on OB that he was a walk-on but after reading the articles again it doesn't say that. The BevoBeat article is the only one that mentions him being a walk-on.

Not necessarily, especially when it comes to kickers and punters. I remember a couple past instances where the staff went out to recruit kickers as non-scholarship players. The only one I remember is Trey DiCarlo, who ended up at OU.
