It's interesting so many people were agreeing and enjoying the harsh penalties listed in the OP.

Is that because you want to see harsher punishments across the board to violators or you think that what Oregon did was far worse than Ohio State, etc, and the Ducks deserve stricter punishments?

Yes.

Paying for recruits is far, far more harmful to the sport than allowing current players to make money selling their things on the side, and is an actual tangible advantage given to the cheating team.

Oregon could benefit on the field by buying a recruit. OSU doesn't see any benefit on the field when Terrelle Pryor trades a jersey for a tattoo.

BTW, the part about banning OOS recruiting makes the whole OP suspect. Never heard of such a thing from the NCAA, sounds made up.

If true, Oregon needs to get hit hard, but I'll believe it if/when it happens. Until then, it's much ado about nothing.

There needs to be harsher penalties accross the board to make cheating more costly. This won't remove the problem but it will change the cost benefit analysis for some programs. Ultimately there needs to be a temporary coaching ban or serious monetary penalty levied directly against the coaches who facilitate or allow the cheating. This would motivate people who are in a position to curb or stop the activities.
