One year rental big man available--Keith Clanton of UCF

  • Central Florida was just hit with a tournament ban. Clanton is a rising senior, making him eligible to transfer and play without sitting a year. First team all-conference last year, school career shot blocker, 6'9" 245 lbs, averaged 14.5 pts, and 8.1 rebounds a game last year. Has grabbed a rebound every 4 minutes in his career. Has shot nearly 35% from three over the last two years, though one wonders why he attempted so many (3.5/game) as a junior.

Here he is using his size to get position for offensive rebound and game tying putback to set up game winning ft against Memphis.

  • Every college will be calling him...we'll see where he ends up.

  • We could use a rental couldn't we? Boy I'd love to see a tournament champion return to Austin!

Probably every school with a scholarship available, anyway. I hope we learn from Gerry or someone whether Texas will be making a call and has any chance at landing him if it does. It will probably be pretty hard to convince him to relocate so far on such short notice, and I suspect several SEC, ACC, and Big East schools will make inquiry with a few Florida based schools among those asking.

  • Why not push for Marcus Jordan too? I would drive to Austin just to see his dad in the stands.

Because he doesn't shoot well (career .311 3 point shooter) and was arrested this summer for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest?

I'm being selfish here, man. Work with me.

  • Texas is used to rentals, but on the front end of a career instead of the back end. Experience would be nice.

  • Of course, they should call. They already should have called.

  • In this article, Clanton is said to have decided during his original recruitment to stay home in Orlando so his mother could watch all the home games.

    Grew up with single mom.

I'm going to have serious doubts about him going very far from Orlando for his senior season.

  • Then again, maybe he would be willing to relocate, but it sounds like his former AAU coach might be involved.

"There's a lot of schools that have been inquiring about him. Schools from all over the country," [Clanton's former AAU coach Kenny] Gillion said. "A lot of the schools have been talking to me and then I'll go and put it on the table for Keith and his mom. I've talked to both of them.

"If he leaves, he would want to play for a team that would let him do the same kinds of things he's done at UCF," Gillon said. "Coach Jones allowed him to play his game. UCF has been very, very good for him. He likes it there, he likes the style. But obviously he would like to compete for a team that can play for the national championship. He's on the radar for the NBA and wants to show that he can compete with the best out there. He's looking at what is the best thing for him."

  • @gregauman: Hearing that UCF forward Keith Clanton hasn't yet decided if he'll return to Knights, but if he doesn't, heard FSU and Kentucky are options...

Would make me sick if he goes to UK....
