Alamo Bowl was a nice win, but let's not take our eyes off the ball here. Also, boo to whomever locked the original thread.

  • It's still time for him even after the win. I fully expect next year to he his last.

  • This is hilarious...I wonder how long it'll be before the thread gets locked down??? I'm getting mines in!!!!

Congrats on the win Mack but its time for you to go! Fire/Retire Mack Brown!!!!

  • I am not drinking the kool-aid. Same thing as last year, "look at the bowl performance, man we are going places next year".

I saw the same team with the same issues. Ash has no clue about where the play clock is, how to recognize a blitz, or that a wide open reciver for a first down is better than a tight coverage seem route to a tight end who is doubtful to catch it anyway. How many false starts and holding calls put us behind the chains (O-state had 2 penalties all game). Poor O-line play. Dreadful special teams errors. We were lucky to win period. Alex Okafor played like an NFL end, O-state stayed with a QB who was having trouble, and a combo of poor officiating and a coach going into the locker room with a time-out in his pocket cost them 3 points prior to the half.

I think Brown has taken UT as far as he is able and it is time to find a replacement.

If UT reaches Mack's yearly goal of 10 wins next year I don't see any way he leaves after 2013.

Have always thought he is here through 2014.

For some reason I believe you. I think he and Dodds want to hold hands and run off into the sunset together.

That said, he is going to be here so I am all in.

  • Jeez... Looking at those scores makes my stomach turn...
He did resurrect the program from the Mackovick mediocrity, winning more games than any other coach and bringing a national championship to Texas... For that I will always love Mack... However, there always comes a time when you have to hang it up...
It would be nice if he could ride off into the sunset after a BCS bid in 2013... Power of positive thinking...

  • I'm not a fan of the other thread being locked either.

It artificially makes it look like the heat died down, and it hasn't for me.

I can provide a link to the full Cotton Bowl game if anyone needs it to remember the abortion Mack put out on the field against our biggest rivals. I'm sure I can find many of the other games as well in case you need to be reminded that he is a repeat offender. It's f*cking pathetic and unacceptable.

  • At this point, I think it's a moot point either way. Either 2013 goes down like Mack says it will and he goes out a winner. Or another year like this and even the BMDs will say it's time to hang it up.

I enjoyed the game and glad we won. But I need Admiral Ackbar to help put it in perspective regarding optimism next year until they prove it.

I don't disagree at all. I think there comes a time and this is it however he is coming back and therefore I am all in. I don't downvote.

  • This thread is pointless. The decision has already been made (apparently) and no amount of hand ringing from the peanut gallery will change that. Brown is coming back, and so is Diaz. The best course of action for Longhorn Nation, collectively and individually, is to accept it and get behind it. Brown will be back for 2013. Let's hope that he gives Applewhite the freedom to prove that he should be captain of this ship in 2014.

I'm sorry but I respectfully disagree. The, "decision has been made better get on board," mentality is bs.

I love my Longhorns and I am grateful to coach brown. However, I can still pull for the kids and be critical of the HC. I've always felt he was too soft, and that Stoops owns him. The game has passed him by and it's time for him to pass the torch.

    That is all.

The two are not not mutually exclusive. It is entirely possible to be critical of something yet still support the prescribed course of action (ask the majority of servicemen who have served in the sandbox over the past decade). I have been quite critical of Brown this season (for the first time ever) but I have accepted the fact that he will coach this team in 2013 and that no amount of bitching will change that certainty.

This is not the military where insubordination amongst the rank and file would be detrimental to the well being of the collective. In your analogy, the players are the servicemen, not us. I'm as free to bitch about the military actions our country has taken as I am about the direction of UT football, to essentially the same effect, I grant you. However, your "getting behind the decision" will have the exact same effect as my cries for change. My only hope is that eventually enough people are shouting in unison that the ivory tower must acknowledge us.

  • Mack Brown and Deloss Dodds are doing less with more since 2009. While at other major universities three subpar seasons in a row with alarming and shameful losses to archrivals will have consequences, Texas (thanks to the BMD) has decided to stick with the complaceny Brown has brought into the program.
I've checked out until UT footbal has the chance to make a fresh start and it won't happen with Brown. I hope more fans will recognize that 10-wins won't get us anywhere close to where this program ought to be considering its resources. Locking the other thread without an explanation only adds to the notion that Brown is above criticism when IMHO he is the root of the problem.

  • Mack reached his ceiling in 2009.
He needs to go, but while we are at it, clean house with the big 3 sports and with Dodds.

  • I don't mind threads like this because everyone is entitled to their opinion. What I do mind is the artificial "bumps" just to keep it on the front page. That's chickensh##t. It empowers the people on the thread and polarizes the whole board. Let it run it's natural course!
