OU spring update

  • Your OL was good last year because you could throw and pass. Defenses had to respect that. I am not sure you will be as good this year without Broyles.

Texas was starting two guards at the tackle spots last year (one of which was really bad and was replaced the next game), an undersized and weak center, an average player at LG and a RG that hasn't worked out his lower half since he's been in college because of injuries.

This year, Texas will start two tackles, move the RT to LG (natural inside guy), RG is finally lifting legs, and the center is getting bigger and stronger (hopefully) this offseason or he will be replaced in the lineup by a stronger and more explosive player in Sedrick Flowers. The OL will be better whether you want to admit it now or not.

And in spite of significant injuries to key starters and back-ups at Receiver, TE, RBs, Net Rushing was, 2,634 yds, Pssg, 2,469.

  • Let me throw this out there.

Would you think a group loaded with freshmen and sophomores in their second year would have more upside than a group littered with upper classmen that had been playing in the same system since they have been there?

Very real possibility but if the running game is improved, and I think it will be, it will balance out. If Metoyer is as good in the game as he has been in practice, then our offense could be every bit as good as last year or better. Its still hype until the first game, but the kid has been on fire. Then we bring in Gardner to add to the mix and we go from a good recieving corps to a great one. But we will see.

There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.

Id think the upper classmen would have an advantage, but what is your take? I like what we have up front a great deal for next year. I just wanna see it used with a running game with power instead of running from the gun and stuff all the time.

Sounds like all projections, which you accuse Texas fans of doing.

Yawn. This conversation isn't going anywhere and hasn't been going anywhere since the first post. See y'all in October.

When discussing the impact of the loss of Ryan Broyles on our offense down the stretch last season, hardly do you see the impact of the loss of starting, 100 ypg, RB Dom Whaley included in the discussion. As Broyles went down, that took the 2nd of our top two weapons on offense away.

Naturally, losing your top rusher and your top receiver will have a negative impact on offensive production. This season, we expect the return of Dom Whaley, a veteran OL, and the running ability of Blake Bell to help improve our end of season run production.

The improvement of the run game will also help our passing game which is known nationally as one of the best. At OU, we lose great receivers like Malcolm Kelly, Mark Clayton, and Jaquin Iglasias and replace them with guys like Ryan Broyles. Next season at WR we have Kenny Stills, Jaz Reynolds, Trey Franks, and Kameel Jackson all of which have contributed successfully to our passing game. Those 4 guys alone are going to move the chains because they've already shown they can.

Mix the run with guys proven to do it with an OL that's highly experienced, a QB that's highly experienced, and experienced, productive receivers, I think our offense will be as potent as it has been in the past.
