Didnt see anywhere that said OU lost its defense, but they did lose by far their best pass rusher, both the Lewis boys, and while true OU returns 4 starting DBs, they are nothing to brag about. I'll take Diggs, Byndom and Vaccaro everyday. Even if our other safety had more experience, I'd still take Tony Jefferson as he is a baller plain and simple. Those 4 have a good shot at taking the All-Conference spots, possibly a couple All-Americans.
Yes OU has a little more experience at LB, but Steve Edmond is already better than Wort even before his knee exploded. Nelson is good but doesnt have alot more experience than Demarco Cobbs. Edge to Cobbs if he can stay healthy. Healthy he has the playmaking ability that T. Jefferson shows for OU. Beyond the 2 LBs you named, no one with significant PT is left. Jordan Hicks is coming on as a Junior and from all reports seems to be finally letting his work ethic and drive match his potential. I think he does a great job picking up the slack for Acho being gone
The OU receivers did have great numbers against us at Dallas last year, but that was with Broyles still playing. Stills, Reynolds, Metoyer and all the Freshman WRs coming in make up a good unit, but I think a UT secondary plus a year experience in Bennie's weight program and a year older, minus the secondary's 4-year traffic cone Blake Gideon and I think this is a push at best.
Lest we forget that if Ash doesnt go color blind and give OU 21 points and kill 3 drives single-handedly, OU has 34 points and UT has 3 more possessions.
Bottom line, I think the lines for both teams, both UT OL vs OU DL, and UT DL vs. OU OL will decide this game. UT getting pressure on Jones without his Broyles security blanket will be huge, and UT's OL giving Ash more than 1 and a half steps before he is being hit by defensive linemen will go a long way toward UT having a successful offensive showing during RRR '12

I beg to differ, our defense never got of the field because we didn't have a first down until almost the middle of the second quarter, couple that with turnovers and they had short field all day and even the best defense can't do anything about that.

I just don't understand how people can still be saying this. The 2009 Texas team was not as talented as the 2009 blowU team, but Texas won because Texas punched them in the effin mouth until Stoops panicked and his team quit. The absolutely putrid 2010 Texas team stayed within a touchdown the whole game.

Last year sucked, but you're ignoring recent history if you think Texas hasn't figured out how to out-physical blowU in the last five years.

Yes it's well known that our offense sputtered after losing Whaley and Broyles. However, during that time we discovered the value of Blake Bell running a Tebow power set that started out near the goal line, but then progressed to anywhere on the field when short yardage pickups were needed. LJs TDs went way down and BBs went way up.

Yes Jones lost his security blanket, but lots of top teams lose key players. You guys lost Fozzy and it hurt. I doubt you look at the upcoming season and still feel his absence will hinder your production. Jones will have had bowl practices, spring, summer, and August to find a new security blanket. He is a veteran surrounded by veterans so naturally they will put a stout offense on the field.

He wouldn't put anyone in the conference ahead of Hurst, Colvin, and Jefferson. We have a new DB coach. Remember what it was like at your Spring game with new coaches last year?

Trust me, Nelson will be our starting WLB and be a tackling machine. Ibiloye will be situational at SLB. Mike Stoops will prefer more Nickle and pull JI for a 5th DB.

Of course this all depends on a lot of potential factors between now and September.
