OU LB Tom Wort Declaring Pro Early

  • SoonerSeif said...

Wort was taken out and replaced with Shannon midway through the year. I watched every OU. There's no point in arguing with you though, I know I'm on a Texas board and a visitor so I'll leave it at that.

    We don't really claim him.

Wort started every game besides one? He had better statistics than any other LB on the team, and, as you said... split time with Shannon. He was a two-time All-Big 12 selection and one of the better MLB's in the league.

The scheme is not the same, and the majority of the tackles came from the secondary. It's a significant loss any way you cut it. It's about like us losing Edmonds... a two year starter at MLB. Though, Wort has received more accolades for his play than what Edmonds has received.

If Colvin leaves (which is very possible), OU will have four returning starters on defense.

OU has plenty of depth to step-up at ILB. Plus they are killing it in recruiting thus far... they have that kid that plays with Oliver (Mastrogiovanni) coming in with this years recruiting class. They're solid!

OU gets to use A&M LB recruits? Has to be a violation there somewhere.

You lost all credibility when you said Wort is one of the better LBs in the league.

  • He never had any credibility. Did you see his attempt at what he refers to as "sarcasm"?

LOL! I guess you should tell that to the folks that picked him for the nations All-Freshmen team, and the All-Big 12 team in the last two years. I'm sure that you know much more than the folks that are making those decisions though. With all your internet "credibility."

Let's just say, Wort was one of the best LB's in the Big 12 prior to losing Venables and bringing on the dipshit brother (Mike Stoops) and his lapdog (Kish)... Mike Singletary would be a worthless LB under their expert tutelage.

  • Wort will be undrafted. His best hope is special teams and will have a short career if any in the NFL. I never understood why he was an LB instead of safety. Guess he was too slow for safety. Maybe he can play in Canada.

Wort is not an NFL LB whatsoever... that doesn't change what he was able to do the last few years at OU. As a Longhorns fan, I am more than happy that he will be leaving. 20 tackles in 3 games with a forced fumble, 2 tackles for loss, and a sack.

I really don't see him making an NFL roster though... still a huge loss for an OU team that completely sucked at the LB position all year.

Huge loss? You trying to up your chances in Dallas? Wort was a poor tackler. He always tried to launch into the runner but he wasnt the biggest guy so that didnt work well. He did make some plays for us but was hardly a gap filler and played injured most of his time at OU. Venables used him the best by giving him predetermined assignments that let him get his motor going at the snap. He wasnt ever that good at reading and reacting. I guess his intensity is what kept him on the field as well as his speed, but we had better traditional LBs than him. Take Jayden Bird for instance. Didnt play much, but he could take on a block, get off it and make a play. Wort couldnt do that very well. Travis Lewis could do it well too.

So, if you want to call him a starter, meaning he was the first LB on the field, thats fine. The truth is, after that, Shannon got most of the reps and Franklin even started to get in more.

I have no clue whos going to start next year at LB. Nelson hasnt been great, Shannon did well when he played, Franklin did too, but we are small at the LB position and if the DTs dont improve, people will run over us again. I just hope we dont come back out with that 4-1-6 defense again.

There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.
