Recovery was really good imo. Give it a shot.

Can't do it playa. I'm just not a fan of Eminem.

Thats it for me though. I know everyone will disagree with me but I'm just not big on him at all. Haven't listened to him since 1999.

I'm a big Eminem fan, so I like a ton of his stuff. In my opinion, nobody put more emotion into their music than Tupac, Michael Jackson and Eminem. Have you tried "I Need a Doctor"? It's pretty good. I think Em wrote Dr. Dre's lyrics in that song, but I guess what do you expect at this point in Dre's career.

What do you think of my R&B list? I could have named plenty more but I had to stop myself. I had to say "Maceo, no one is going to read all of this!" Lol!

I know this discussion is on Hip hop, but I have to ask, what is your favorite R&B album of all time? Mine is w/o question "Who is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1" A 50 minute 17 song masterpiece that should have gone another 17 songs. I fell in love with Jill Scott on this album. My wife even knows and accepts that if I ever meet her I'm going to give it a shot! Lol!

I would say Al Green's "Call Me", or "Get's Next to You", or Otis Redding's "Otis Blue / Sings Soul". If you can, just buy that 8 cd Stax Box set. It is just one track after another after another of incredible stuff. I just put it on random play on weekend mornings....

    What else?
Stevie Wonder's "Songs in the Key of Life" and "Innervision"
Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" and "Let's Get it On"
    Curtis Mayfields "Super Fly"
Earth Wind & FIre's That's the Way of the World
    Spinners "Spinners"
Parliment/Funkadelic's Mothership Connection, One Nation Under a Groove and Maggot Brain
    O'Jays "Ship Ahoy"
Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings "100 Days, 100 Nights"
Anything by Fela Kuti (technically afrobeat, but still)
    Stylistics "Original Debut Album"
Sly and the Family Stone "Stand" and "There's a riot goin' on"
James Brown - about 10 different albums, esp Live at the Apollo and The Payback
    Issac Haye's "Hot Buttered Soul"
Lauryn Hill - The miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Anything by Maxwell for the most part
Michael Jackson - Off the wall
Anything with Nora Jones on it (In looooove with that girl)

Nah, its all good stuff. This is how you learn about new good stuff. I figure if you guys like 90% of what I like, then that means if you go crazy over something I don't know about, I will probably like it as well....

I think he's pretty talented but I also think
He gets a pass a lot of times for just being weird/different and that doesn't always mean its good.

  • I think Tyler is really funny...but I also think his antics limits him to a particular audience and I'm not sure that's a good thing..

I realize that and agree. I never care about up/downvotes. I just think it is ridiculous for this thread to be downvoted.

I didn't up vote or down vote this thread, but I am curious why one one would be an idiot for down voting it? Are we not allowed to have a differing opinion? Or is it we are allowed to have a different opinion as long as we don't voice it. And if you "don't really care", why beg for up votes?

Keeping in mind I didn't vote either way...

I have over 24,000 mp3's, covering every genre you can imagine and I just don't listen to hip hop/rap much at all. There are a few songs I listen to when road cycling, but other than that, not so much.

For the record, my preference is classic rock, but if you tap into my iPod you will find blues, country, acoustic, R&B, Pop, and God knows what else.

Going forward try looking at the up/down vote as agree/disagree and quit taking it so personal.

I was a lurker on IT,OB and here for a long time. I just recently started posting here even though I have been a member since 2010. I only have 220 but in pretty much every single one of them you will see that I acknowledge EVERYONE's right to their opinion/beliefs and respect them all even when I disagree. You could have 2, 24,24,000, or 2.4 million mp3s. It dosent matter to me. I respect whatever you like. I'm not "begging" for upvotes. I didn't start the thread so it dosent effect me. I do find it idiotic to downvote a thread that states what its about in the title. Why open the thread if you don't like Hip hop? Last, you and I both know that the up/downvote is used for more than agree/disagree. If it were only for that it wouldn't be used to "rate" posters.

Because I wanted to see what was being said and post my thoughts. That's what bulletin boards are generally about.

You may also want to check out the Off Topic thread. That is where these topics are generally posted since the ones that run the site have stated they prefer this to remain a board dedicated to sports, particularly Longhorn sports.

And for the record, I didn't say I don't like rap. What I said was " I just don't listen to hip hop/rap much at all." Remember, it was our generation that started it all.

    1. I didn't say you did or didn't like rap/hip hop. It's not my business if you do or don't.

    2. You took that question out of context. It was not aimed at you specificly. It was an answer to your question which was why did I call the downvoting of this thread idiotic? Are people not allowed to have differing opinions? To which my reply is if you don't like rap, why come into a thread that clearly states the subject matter is about rap just to downvote it?

    3. No need to be condesending. I'm fully aware of the purpose of message boards.

    4. Since you didn't vote either way my comments SHOULD be no harm no foul since I wasn't talking about you anyway, right??

Not anyone new. I think Atlanta is where rap went to die, at least the mainstream stuff anyway. I do love OutKast along with Goodie Mobb,Arrested Development,UGK,Scarface/Geto Boys,2 Live Crew,Mystical,8ball and MJG,Three 6 Mafia to name a few.

I totally agree with you. He is the flavor of the moment. I think that he/they and A$AP Rocky are getting hyped right now, for good reason, and have the tools to do really really great things, its just, will they do it?

I hear ya papa horn. I'm the same way. I have a terabyte drive that is full of music now. I think there are great things in all music, sometimes you have to pick and choose, but there is awesome stuff, and we shouldn't close our minds to it.

My latest obsession is 1500's - 1600's choral music, just awe inspiring. My favorite piece of music right now is this classical piece(though it is not choral music), well worth the listen, esp in the morning/evening around sunset/sunrise. Check it out:
