    He's supposedly playing QB for Sealy again this year. Is it possible he's looking to stay there in college?

    They are high on Mett but the short answer is they don't. That's what makes it so weird to me. You can't say with a straight face you are considering LSU because they will showcase my ability as a WR and they won't run very much. that's laughable. They could pull their DJ Monroe/Dontre Wilson conversation and say we will use you like we did Randle/Tolliver/Shep and see if that flies.

    I'm guessing the answer is no. I believe this has nothing to do with football, the Longhorn offense, opposing defenses or the Longhorn Network and has everything to do with basketball. And as we all know, that's a whole different world of recruiting.

    I still think he'd be getting the same level of negative recruiting about how we would use him, why we keep having players leaving, who's going to throw him the ball etc. etc. but it probably wouldn't have had as much of an effect unless you add in the whole basketball angle.

    OK, I'll list the good Big 12 defenses he'll go against. KSU and blowu. Did I leave any out. Actually i left out MSU from the SEC. They have a very stout defense, Arkie, not great, but not Kansas either. Vandy and ISU cancel each other out. Advantage SEC defenses, and not even close.

    At the end of the season 3 Big? defenses will reside in the top 50, about 10 will make it from the SEC.

    Well, considering RSJ may well play defense himself it still makes no sense.
    And, just for the record, TCU has fielded a very good D the last 5 years.

  • Interesting take, however, I'm not buying the "dominating against the dominant SEC defenses" is what it takes to make first round money in the NFL.

    If he completely dominates in the Big 12, his road to first round NFL money will be all but guaranteed.

    This kid can't (I hope) have an ego that would dictate a defection to the SEC just to face better competition.

    In the past it seems feelings would be hurt and they would move on. Hope that is not the case.

  • Okay maybe this is a little too direct for this board but piecing together all of the innuendo herein leads me to surmise that (1) the young man is not the only one with a hand in this decision, (2) some one else who is involved has decided to open things up and (3) mostly like has done so based on conversations (which included hard negative sell on Texas) with and/or incentives provided by another interested party, and finally (4) either LSU or AAU coach is the most likely source of said conversation and/or incentive.

    Is that about right or am I a little slow today?

  • This just doesn't make sense if it's not about basketball. He loves Texas, he LOVES the idea of catching passes from Tyrone Swoopes so it has nothing to do with the QB or passing game. It can't be the quality of the recruiting class because Texas's last two classes have been incredible. The only remaining possible factor is that he has some (I don't know to what magnitude) desire to play basketball at the next level. And in my opinion, why not? Let him do both at Texas. From what I hear he's an absolute stud at both. Let him try it out, we could use another SF after missing out on Pollard anyways.

    RSJ's decision is the biggest decommitment from the Horns in the Mack Brown era by a large, large margin. There's no other way to couch it.

    But we have lost a lot of head to heads that were just as if not more important. We lost Adrian Peterson, Billy Sims, Marcus Dupree, and on and on. At the end of the day, it is one player and given his inclination, is it likely it is a good fit anyway?
    At the end of the day, the 2013 class will be a great class. 2011 and 2012 are excellent classes.
    How is it there is such a panic and hullabaloo over one guy deciding to do something else?

    I understand where you are going with this but these aren't the best examples to use. We won an NC without Peterson and Dupree last 1 season at OU.

    Bingo, the thought that immediately crossed my mind when I heard the news was the play everyone was singing RSJ's praise over. The incomplete pass that he caught, or the one that should have been. That might have more of an impact than we thought. He might not hav been in awe of swoops.

  • I can read between the lines. But the problem with that is people just assume anything and everything.

    So he's dealing with a street agent and/or his AAU coach.
