Not trying to take away from your point about Colt covering up the Perriloux miss, but he wasn't the reason we didn't tank in 2007. Jamaal Charles was. Without Charles, we go 7-5 or possibly 6-6 with a loss to UCF in 2007. If Ash has Colt's 2007 numbers in 2012, no one here is going to be pleased.

Possibly true but even Charles would tell you his fumbles cost us the OU game. Colt problems were interceptions but he still had a good year and won some games. he was inconsistent during the year and injured quite a bit. But Charles was fumble prone and just as inconsistent. You could tell he was finally starting to flash towards the end of the season. 1/2 his yardage came in the last 5 games. I'd say they complimented each other well but theres no way to know what one could have done that season without the other.

Mack and GD were surprised also. Not shocked but they believed he was signing with Texas.

I think what makes this one so unique is that it happened the night/day after being in Austin. That is what seems like the big slap in the face.

They realized about a week before signing day when Perriloux's coach Larry Dautrieve started changing his tune somewhat that things were changing and they were in the outside looking in regardless of public comments.

If you attended the Army game and practices, you knew he wasn't going to Texas despite his public comments. He was recruiting for LSU at the Army game that year.

  • Bobby - is RSJ & Texas over? Both parties simply move on from here? Or does Texas keep trying?

    not over.

If we stop recruiting RSJ, then our staff is stupid

  • Not over.

Some are insinuating Baylor but reality is LSU and then A&M to a much lesser degree. Briles had zero to do with this.

Can you just put everything out there instead of provide little snippets all day long? Or are you trying to be Geoff Ketchum with your coyness?

Sometimes it's not the recruit that reopens their own recruitment.

    Indeed.

I've been covering recruiting before Mack Brown came to Texas.

RSJ's decision is the biggest decommitment from the Horns in the Mack Brown era by a large, large margin. There's no other way to couch it.

imo this speaks more to the job Mack has done keeping recruits than it does to the "elite" level of RSJ. Not saying he won't end up an all-american but, he is hardly the only big fish available.

  • Not quite the conspiracy theorist as some. With the shitty distribution of the LHN is there any chance he goes to LSU to be on tv every week. Also, if he thinks he's the best, and wants to be tested. Maybe he thinks shining against defenses such as Auburn, Bama, Georgia, Florida, S.C. will be more of a barometer of his skill set than going up against Baylor, T.T., Okie St., ISU, and Kansas.

The day Gerry tries to be Geoff Ketchum will be a cold day in hell. Just my $.02.

No love lost there. David Garvin perhaps?

  • This is not about Mack. Some forget how many recruits Mack got to stay when he fired damn near his entire staff.

  • From ESPN...

“He says he might play basketball only in college,” said one source close to the situation. “[He] wants to look around and see what that would be like. He said he might go visit Kansas.”

Depends on where he ends up playing. I see him as a DE myself. If that is the case, we have several options.

I see what you did there. You cherry picked the better SEC defenses and then listed the weak ones in the Big 12.

That makes sense because I was struggling with WR's.

OK, I'll list the good Big 12 defenses he'll go against. KSU and blowu. Did I leave any out. Actually i left out MSU from the SEC. They have a very stout defense, Arkie, not great, but not Kansas either. Vandy and ISU cancel each other out. Advantage SEC defenses, and not even close.

At the end of the season 3 Big? defenses will reside in the top 50, about 10 will make it from the SEC.

  • latest de-commit is always the biggest de-commit, sort of like this year's recruits are always better than last year's recruits, and next year's recruits are going to be better than this year's recruits, etc...

This comment might hold water if LSU had a quarterback who was any more capable of completing passes than the ones Texas has.
