New Big 12 exit fee approved

    Big 12 schools agreed to surrender Tier 1, 2 TV rights to conference for 6 years. Big move. More ironclad than an exit fee.

    They've assigned/licensed their rights. So you can leave, but the conference retains the right to show and sell your tv rights. Put another way, if you go to another conference, that conference can't show your games or include them in their tv deal. Its a total "all-in"

    I think you can expect a few quotes from UT shortly. This is all about that saving face stuff. We must give OU some credit here. Its free. Its not some contest we must win.

    UT will soon show up with a humbled tone. Admit that we are all really winner here because the conference is now stable and agree that thanks in part to the hard work of OU and the other 8 teams in the conference we are stable again.

    "We appreciate the University of Oklahoma, and especially the hard work of Boren, in helping the conference and the 9 remaining members create a solid foundation from which to establish our future."

  • Agree this acts as a strong deterrent. Not only does School X's rights remain with the Big12 after leaving, the new conference doesnt get it either.
    So here's a question - Does a new team looking to join the Big12 expected to give up theirs as well? thats a huge commitment to make

  • So this makes it almost financially impossible to leave the conference, outside of Texas. If Mizzou got the one thing they have coveted, a big10 invite, is there any way they could get out? Huge commitment.
