Mods/posters: How does the upvote/downvote/stars system work

  • I am curious about everything, so I am naturally curious about how the up vote/getting more stars by your name works. I have never figured it out. I do not care personally about having five stars, etc, I'm just interested in knowing how the system works.

    Say, I have four starts, how many upvotes to I need to go to five stars? How many downvotes to go to three starts, et cetera.

    If you are 80%+ on upvotes, you are 5 stars. 60%+ is 4 stars. 40%+ 3 stars, 20%+ 2 starts, and everybody gets at least a star.

  • How come some days I start the day with 4 down votes available, some days its 3 and some days its 2.

    I don't down vote often so its not holdover. Say I down vote a thread and I get the response (you have 3 down votes remaining)

    Then a week later I down vote and it says you have one down vote remaining. Then two days later it may say I have 2 remaining. It seems completely random.

  • How come when I want to upvote someone at times it turns out to be a down vote? I hate when that happens. Is there a way to find out who is up or down voting you?

    I will never make 5 stars because I think, act and talk like a girl!!!!!!!hahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!

  • I'm glad someone asked that question, I've wondered, thanks for ansking and Bierce thanks for the answers. Does anyone now why after a year I got the red downvote arrow activated? Never had a downvote to award before.

    Downvotes are for people who can't add to a discussion and get butt hurt, and upvotes are for people who have a sense of humour and/or add some form of substance to any thread.
