Mike Mitchell Down To FSU & tOSU?

  • Below from ESPN...

"Linebacker Mike Mitchell (Plano, Texas/Prestonwood Christian Academy) has long been considered an Ohio State lean. Mitchell then stole the show at The Opening which in turn gave him tremendous exposure. Florida State has entered the conversation as a legitimate contender to land Michell."

"Still hearing Mitchell likely to Ohio State despite Florida State smoke, but we shall see next weekend," Alex Gleitman of elevenwarriors.com tweeted."

"Next weekend is Ohio State's Friday Night Lights when recruits get the opportunity to visit the campus and hobnob. Mitchell is expected to attend. He may visit Florida State instead. Where Mitchell decides to travel next week could be a good indicator of which school he prefers."

He is a freak of nature with a motor from hell.Oh and his athletic ability is off the charts.Texas won't let him try to make it at LB so we are just gonna watch him star somewhere else like RG111. I don't sound to bitter do I?

Honestly with his frame abf size he would make a darn good DE, he has the explosive jump off the ball, speed off the edge and with about 30 lbs would be a monster to handle

He won't consider playing DE. I know the coaches are right about DE being the most likely place for him to end up.But damn let him try LB at least.Mack is honest to a fault, gotta admire that as you don't get that in college ball these days.

He's already thinking about playing MLB in the NFL, so that's where he's going to want to play, either at FSU or tOSU.

Certainly looks like a future DE to me too...

Which position makes more $ in the NFL?

couldnt agree more. It will be interesting to see his senior tape. The talent is there, but the film and the test results do not match at this pt

  • As much as I am on board with a large majority of people on this site about offering him as a linebacker I also like the fact that the UT staff will not lie to him and they continue to think he will spin down to the D-line. He is a freak and he will be a great DE one day. To bad the kid just doesn't see that.

It's not the kid, it's the father. The father has notified all interested college coaches that his son will be playing MLB and only MLB in college and then in the NFL. Seriously. Does that sound like someone who will do whatever it takes to make the team better? If not, do you want an individual like that on your team and in your locker room? Sometimes you make decisions on criteria other than pure athleticism.

  • It's a battle UT (or any team besides Florida) is not gonna win. Perfect storm for Ohio St. Mike grew up a huge Florida fan (Urban Myer era). Dad was a MLB. They're dead set on Mike doing the same. Not gonna win this one, so you guys might as well move on.

It will be good for the kid to get far away, so his dad isn't breathing down his/the coaches' necks at every practice when they "try" him at DE when he "can't crack the two deep at MLB".

I know you love the kid, and I root for him too because I'm a Plano guy myself, but I can't help but think that our coaches have really thought this through and have made a concrete decision that this kid's massive athletic upside isn't enough to overcome whatever other issues they perceive with offering the kid a 'ship at MLB. Net-net for me: This coaching staff isn't the lazy one that we had prior to 2010, and they'll get the benefit of the doubt from me on talent identification and thoroughness of evaluation until I see otherwise.

I love what I saw last recruiting season with offers to guys like A.Colbert, Santos, Overstreet, Blueitt, and Marcus Johnson where the staff obviously didn't take the easy way and instead did a thorough evaluation and offered guys who weren't necessarily the highest ranked guys on the 247 or Rivals lists, but appeared to be good projections into the schemes that we'll be running in the future. I don't think one of these guys even gets a whiff from the pre-2010 staff.

This new staff has my trust and confidence until I have evidence to the contrary.

I agree with you totally RacerX.And I have all the confidence in the world with the new staff. But this one just smells bad.But I have moved on as far as thinking we have a chance.
