Michael Huff done as a Raider

  • @AdamSchefter: Raiders announced they released WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, DB Michael Huff and DE David Tollefson; and re-signed DB Phillip Adams.

  • What a move. Keep those fans guessing ...

  • A blessing for Huff! He catches on with a better team......

  • Heyward -Bey was the typical Al Davis choice - could flat out fly but couldn't catch a cold. He was pronounced a bust the day he was drafted.

um, he also missed out on a $4 million bonus by being cut. expensive blessing.

............when you don't have to play for the Davis family anymore and can pursue teams he wants to play for..........that's a blessing. The money, when you are a good player, takes care of its self. I think Huff would like to play for a team that has a chance to win. What is the old saying.........money can't buy happiness.

yeah you're right, it's not like he would've ever re-signed there on his own given his choice

Please, the Raiders organization was very good to Huff. For the past 7-8 years they paid him significantly more than he was worth given on his on field production.

..............on field production? How would anybody know. The raiders haven't played in a meaningful game is what 10 years?

If a player wants to win being a raider is not a team to consider............IMHO and based on about 20 years of results.

What does playing in a meaningful game have to do with underperforming relative to your draft position and salary?

Yea sure Oakland is a mess, but no one is going to pay top dollar for a average-slightly above average safety the way the Raiders will. Unless, you're of the opinion that taking a significant pay cut is a blessing, in which case we'll just have to agree to disagree.

he made the decision to re- sign there already, so your point of view is not supported by Huff's actions. He had that so-called blessing when his last contract ended. look, I'm sure we all want him to win and succeed, but lets not overlook the fact that he was paid handsomely by the Raiders and seemed happy enough there to take their money again. And good for him.

What it says is Huff doesn't care about winning. If he is happy and his family is happy then good for him.

Your first figure was correct. 10 years ago the Raiders were in the super bowl. Should have kept that figure for your second statement, because 20 years is not accurate. The past ten years have been bad, but before that the raiders were the winningest franchise in the history of the NFL.

As others have stated, he was paid very well by the raiders, never truly living up to his year-to-year salary. They also have a legitimate GM now, so saying he doesn't have to work for the Davis family anymore just shows your ignorance to the whole situation. He clearly wasn't worth the money he was being paid and they made a quality move to lift dead money, not the other way around. He was due 11 mil this year, he'd be lucky to get a 2 mil a year deal IMO so it's a huge pay cut for him and his family. But a blessing..

Buy your logic every quality player in the NFL should look to take a pay cut so they can play for a team that might make a superbowl, or else they are a loser at heart... Except the NFL doesn't work that way. You take your money when you can get because the only people guaranteed to make Millions every year are the NFL and the owners.

  • Quinn just signed with Detroit. Texans are going to have to replace him somehow.

................I don't know if you need a math lesson or a history lession. In the last 20 years the Raiders are about 40 games under .500. So you definition of success is different than mine. While they were in the SB in the last 20 years they fired their coach shortly after playing in the SB. 5 winning seasons in 20 years..............not one in 10 years.

Yes the Davis family, unfortunately for their fans still owns the Raiders..............

The Raiders for more than 20 years is a laughing stock in professional sports. The only ones in the NFL that come close would be jerryboys, Bengals, Browns or Cardinals................I repeat a player doesn't care if they win or lose then Oakland is a great place to play if your family is happy............everybody is different.
