Once again, we covered the baseball signings and I posted about the women's basketball ones as well. Those two programs weren't the only ones to grab a couple of good ones today, as the men's golf team did as well.
AUSTIN, Texas -- A pair of top-ranked junior golfers have signed National Letters of Intent and will join The University of Texas Men's Golf program in 2013, head coach John Fields announced Wednesday. Beau Hossler will join the Longhorns in January, and Kalena Preus (KUH-leh-na PROOS) is set to enroll on the Forty Acres in August.
Hossler, a senior at Santa Margarita High School in Mission Viejo, Calif., and the No. 2 junior player in the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings, competed in the U.S. Open in 2011 and 2012. Hossler qualified for the 2011 event at the age of 16 and finished tied for 29th this year at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., after briefly leading the field during the second round. Following the U.S. Open in June, Hossler competed as an amateur at the PGA Tour AT&T National at Congressional Country Club and made his second cut among professional players.
The 2011 U.S. Junior Amateur medalist and a member of the victorious U.S. Team at the 2012 Junior Ryder Cup, Hossler was named to the 2012 Rolex Junior All-America First Team by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). He recently finished second in the 2012 California Interscholastic Federation/Southern California Golf Association State High School Championship and 13th in last year's state tournament.
"We are fortunate to have come to know Beau and his family through the recruiting process," Fields said. "He is obviously a great player and an outstanding student, but more to the point, his values and goals - along with his work ethic - will positively affect our program going forward. We could not be more pleased that Beau is a Longhorn."
Preus, a senior at Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii, was the 2011 conference champion and helped lead Punahou to team state championships in 2010 and 2011. As a sophomore in 2011, Preus clinched the team title with a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole.
A 2010 U.S. Amateur participant, Preus also finished as the runner-up in the individual flight of the 2011 Hawaii State Championships. Preus won the Turtle Bay Amateur in 2011 and 2012, and was also the 2011 Mid-Pacific Open champion in the amateur flight.
"Kalena and his family are great people," Fields said. "We are getting a great young man who has had success in all aspects of his life. Maturity comes to mind when I think of Kalena. He will have an outstanding impact on our team, not only with his athletic ability, but in his leadership both in the classroom and on the course. Kalena will be a great Longhorn."

Hossler will give them a chance to offset the loss of Speith.
Fields is striking me as a coach who doesn't take his foot off the gas when things are good. That can lead to great things.
