It sure sounds to me like Alabama liked Smith more than Texas did. That does not mean the same as Alabama outrecruiting Texas.

Alabama out-recruited Texas. There's no other way to put it.

  • I wonder if we get Smith when Bama revokes his offer because they get somebody that they want more around signing day.

  • Personally, if what you are saying is true Santa Gertrudis then I'm far more concerned about our staff's priorities than I am about about losing Smith. Frankly, it would make me feel a whole lot better to know they were more worried about losing their #1 or #2 in-state DB offer to an SEC school...regardless of circumstances...than they were about the "perception" of how exactly that all went down per Orangebloods.

The simple bottom line is that Akina and Mack misplayed this one and lost. It doesn't happen often to them but it happened this time. What has happend with the RSJ recruitment is far more disturbing from a big picture perspective and is something the staff should be very concerned about.

Staff is pissed about other site misrepresenting the facts

Exhibit number 1,456 as to why Mack Brown fails to deliver conference championships.

If they spend more than a nano second trying to understand what recruiting sites are saying they are focused on all the wrong sorts of stuff.

They don't. He made it all up.

We are being invaded now by fake insiders like Orangebloods?

On to the Big 12 Expansion front: Clemson is further along in leaving than FSU is at this time. Matter of fact I'm being told that Clemson coaches are actually sitting in at the Clemson school meetings with AD's and Administrators. Typically coaches are not in attendance at these meeting There is a lot of movement taking place in the Big 12 and this thing is really starting to take-off.

I don't have any updates on ND at this point.

    SG

I too was told that the Clemson coaches were sitting in on the Board meetings, when I read it on the internet.

Coincidentally, I do not have any updates on ND at this point either, because I haven't seen any on the internet that I can repackage as my own.

They have nothing to be pissed about. He chose another school, so what.

    Yep, this.

No kidding. Seems pretty straight forward to me. We offered. They offered. He picked them. Sounds like we got out recruited. Any other interpretation is just an attempt at spin.

There are insiders obviously. I am not sure who on Hookem247 is an insider other than UT755 who Bobby vouched for. Hopefully Santa Gertrudis is an insider but he did not bring any additional scoop that I haven't already read off other longhorn websites. Grady Wilson seems plugged in to West Plano and other high school coaches in the DFW area.

Bobby vouched for UT755 because he knew that the info in his post was coming directly from Dodds. He also implied that the info that Dodds gives to well heeled boosters is different. That may be true in some cases, but not this one. The actual information was nothing that Dodds wouldn't have shared with the San Marcus Daily News. Not my definition of an insider. Former letterman and boosters certainly have access, but that doesn't necessarily mean they get good info. I'll take someone that a disgruntled Mushchamp confides in over that any day of the week.

I'm not saying there are no insiders, but this guy definitely isn't what he wants everyone to believe he is. I've been reading his shit for years. It's always the same... regurgitation.

  • Just my two cents, there are only 2 top 50 consensus players signed with SEC schools and 1 pending in RSJ depending on what happens with LSU. I am not worried at all at this point about the SEC. In fact, I expected quite a few guys to leave the state with the small classes OU and Texas are signing this year.

i think this is to simplistic of a view on CFB. This is not he days of Bear Bryant. Recruiting sites are important to programs. Kids read these sites. Whether or not he was out-recruited is a moot point now. Staff is trying to frame the argument if this is true. Simply they are in damage control mode. Mack has carefully constructed a view of his program and he wants that maintained. To me the interesting dynamic is Mack losing this guy is because he waited to offer. This has been the biggest criticism. Now rewind the last few yrs and the biggest criticism of many Longhorn recruiting fans is that Mack offers too early. Well the SEC is going to push into Texas and they are going to be in Texas early. They have no self-imposed rules on when they will offer. As fans we will have to pick which side we are willing to accept. He offers kids early that occasionally level out as juniors or Texas waits a little on some kids and miss a couple, because of hurt feelings. Recruiting Texas is going to get more difficult and if Texas does not win 10 games and SEC wins another title it will only get worse. An unseemly thing may be forced upon us all this yr. If OU makes the title game vs an SEC school, we may have to root for OU and chant Big 12 (involuntary gag reaction placed here). In the end, the best thing for Texas is an end of the SEC NC streak

I don't know what went wrong with his (Maurice Smith) recruitment/offer, but IMO coaches slow played it further than it should have.

Another tick in the column where we offer everyone and throw out the losers later.

  • i probably come across as an apologist for the current coaches, and if so, that is not EXACTLY correct. Maybe i am just not as insistent on everything working out, all the time.

recently we have had a few awesome recruiting classes, with these coaches doing the work. Everyone was thrilled with how Mack and the new coaches were handling things (and even Sally, joking or not). People saw a real difference in how these coaches were dealing with recruiting vs the last group of coaches over the last 3 or 4 years.

There were a lot of people thrilled that Mack was no longer offering so early. Thrilled that the coaches were studying harder, evaluating longer and more intensively. Wanted us to look at juco, and now we look at juco. Wanted us to look oos more and now we are clearly evaluating oos a lot.

All the things people were saying before that they wanted, Mack and crew seem to be doing lately. And last year it paid off with an awesome class that folks think will help take us to the mountaintop again.

So especially in a class where we have fewer numbers available, i am not upset with losing a Smith to Alabama. With our limited numbers, we are going to lose a number of guys. I am not happy about RSJ, but i am not happy with that for a number of reasons, and basically none have to do with our coaches. We showed him "love", we offered him early on, he committed. He came to camp the day before he decommited and seemed ot have a great time. And it shows that offering early and getting commitments early does not guarantee that you get the prize.

there is more than one way to recruit. Can do it like Saban, a great coach, by offering tons of folks and weeding out later. I genuinely like and respect how Mack does it. I think he does it with class and honesty and i admire that. We honestly want every single player we offer and they know that. We really want them. And we will honor their commitment.

i understand this board is for serious football junkies and all have their ideas of how to do things. I am in no way suggesting you ought not to complain or argue or discuss the way you want it. That's how these boards work and why they are here, and i love that too. Just take this as my vote that, Smith or RSJ included, I am thrilled with these coaches and how they are going about recruiting. I have great faith that come Feb 2013, we will , most of us anyway, be thrilled with the final class.

now if we win 5 or 6 or 7 games next year, forget i posted this, ok.
