Marcus Smart is good

  • He's dominating in Puerto Rico right now. Wish he was a horn.

  • Holy cow, that alley-oop was crazy.

    NLeininger

  • St. John's only down 2 to Baylor.

Might be the best player in the conference already. That's scary good.

  • Impressive. NC State is very talented and Smart easily looks like the best player on the court.

  • He's a monster and a pleasure to watch.

  • All NC State needs is for Smart to get ejected in the second half. The Wolfpack has them right where they want them.

  • He's such a good player. Not a flashy showboat type either which makes him all the more appealing.

  • If we'd taken his buddy, I believe he would have gone to UT. Personally, I like Forte better than Felix.

    Agree.

It's wasn't Forte or Felix, however. Felix is a PG and will be.

Forte is a sub 6-0 SG. Holland wouldn't have been a spring offer. They will be interesting to see down the line. Forte is better today.

Had offer Smart and Forte, they would be at Texas and Papapetrou and Holland would not.

No doubt Texas would be a better team today. Down the line? TBD.

It was suggested by someone back in the spring that Smart didn't have NBA measurables and would be around Stillwater for at least 3 years.

I think we've already seen how little likely is that scenario.

He's just a terrific basketball player. He definitely has a draft ceiling for the reasons others have talked about in the past. To me, that's why when he is a 1st round pick, he has to go to the league.

Whenever that time is, he needs to roll.

  • Could he not play PG in the NBA? With zone defenses allowed in the NBA I would think that man to man deficiencies would no longer be an issue. I guess GMs are still stuck on measurables instead of basketball IQ.

If Russell Westbrook can do it....

Everyone will tell you that there isn't a bigger Marcus Smart fan than I and I thought he'd be a 3-4 yr guy because I didn't believe Oklahoma St would play him at the point. And I don't care how good he is, the NBA was not going to give a look to a 6'3 SF. I knew he had the ability to definitely play point, just didn't think they'd allow him to do it full time. Now I can see 1 yr but still lean 2.

Yep, Guerrero leaving sure changed things for Smart, didn't it? I can see him staying for a second year, but if his first 4 games are a fair measure of what he will do over the course of the year, he could be gone after just one. He didn't shoot well from outside in the second half today (again), but averaging 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals a game, while locking down on the opposing guard? As soon as he develops consistency in shooting, I think he's probably gone.

  • To be fair it does set a dangerous precedent of offering package deals each time this situation occurs.

Only when the other guy is undeserving of a scholly but people have a hard time understanding that Forte is a good player himself. This was not a Bryan & Ryan Hopkins situation, more similar to Quincy Miller & Deuce Bello.

    That is definitely fair.
I think my point is still valid though.

Also, most of the NBA front offices consider shooting a teachable skill. And guys like Kawhi Leonard just reinforce that. I think he's gone after 1 year barring injury (unless he chooses to return for idealistic reasons).

I can see OSU possibly squeezing a 2nd year out of him simply because of how close he is with Forte. Those 2 are practically brothers.

I agree with you 100% in certain situations.

I agreed wholeheartedly with how Texas handled the Bryan Hopkins recruitment.
