Manziel v Ash: Would aggy beat Ala with Ash?

  • Seriously guys can anyone tell me with a straight face that aggy would have beaten Alabama if they had Ash at qb? The guy puts up good numbers against weak defenses, and totally bombs against anything even half way decent.

Lets face it, with one more year of experience, Ash is not half the QB Manziel is. How did aggy luck out and we didnt?

Alright sunshine pumpers let the hate commence!

How did aggy luck out? Mack Brown overrode Akina. Manziel would be here saving Mack's job like Vince and Colt if he weren't such a moron.

What makes you think this is a joke? Why do you find it funny? Frankly Mack Brown ought to be fired for taking Ash over Manziel.

Baylor got a Heisman winner in RGIII. aggy has a potential Heisman winner in Manziel. And what did Texas get?

  • Cant think of a better way to describe Ash's play in this game! Alas the current recruiting class has NO QB!

  • Manziel vs Ash isnt a discussion worthy comparison. Manziel has a definitive edge on OL, WR, TE, D, and especially coaching. Ash is a game manager at best, he's not a game changer. End of discussion.

That begs the question, why does Manziel have such a solid supporting cast and Ash does not? What does that say about the state of the Texas program and those in charge of running it?

  • The problem with Ash, at least his biggest problem, is confidence. Lack of confidence in his throws is what is causing him to pull the string on literally half his passes or more. His two interceptions in the first half were because he didn't throw the ball hard enough, making it arrive either short or behind the runner. He's not humming the ball.
He's throwing the little short passes like he's afraid the receiver can't catch it if he throws it too hard.
This is why his passes are low. He's not off target on many of his passes, he's just not throwing them with conviction. All this gets back to his passive personality, maybe introverted. I really have liked Ash and pulled for him, but he just does not have the confidence in himself that it takes to put the team on his back.
In addition to Manziel's quickness and speed, he has that leadership quality that champions have. However, Ash is only a sophmore. If he can find himself as a man and break out of that shell from being sheltered from the world, he still has a chance to be a very good QB. I'd like to see Harsin leave, not because he's a bad coach, but I think Major could do as well or better at calling the game and I know he would be a better QB coach. Harsin had basically lost Daje' because the two didn't connect. Major enters the picture and Daje's reconsiders and commits.
Mack refusing to take the advice of Major cost us Christine Michael vs Whaley as a RB.
Mack refusing to take the advice of Akina cost us Manziel. Ash and Manziel would have both come to Texas. Manziel would have come if Mack told him he'd have to cover kicks.
Mack would have lost out on Vince but for continued lobbying from Tim Brewster. That is the one thing that is actually so stupid it's hard to believe.

Ash is a sophomore yes, but Manziel is a RS Frosh! And reading the rest of your post, I cant believe at the stupidity level when it comes to evaluating QB talent for recruitment purposes.

Maybe not Ash, but Doege, Jones, Florence, Geno Smith, or any OSU quarterback might.
