Man the 2008 Team was special

  • just watching highlights on the texasclan site on yet another raining night. That team not having a chance to play for a title was a complete hose job. They were better than OU and they matched up well with a Florida team that ended up beating OU by the same number of points and also on a neutral field (interesting dynamic because I think that title game would have been epic). Would have liked to watch Sergio matched up with Tebow because from what I have heard that was going to be Will's game-plan if Texas got a chance to play in the title game. Sergio manned up on Tebow.

I forgot how talented Brandon Collins was and how Voderel McGee never made the next jump as a player for Texas. Never understood that one. Great speed, quickness and toughness, but for some reason it didn't translate for him at the next level. I really thought he was going to be a great player for Texas.

  • Vondrell was the product of injuries and him being a square peg and Davis trying to fit him into a round hole. I would love to see what a healthy Vondrell could do with Harsin as his OC.

Roy Miller was money in 2008.

I agree with that about McGee. Miller, Houston, Orakpo, Thomas and Kindle. That Dline was special.

This came up with an aggy in my office when I was talking about the most heartbreaking losses I've ever suffered as a fan. The initial conversation was about this year's NFC championship but then I quickly remembered this black hole in my heart which was Halloween night of 2008.

The 'what coulda been' is such a tough topic to discuss. I had to wear a jaw sling for a week after the dreamt catch. What really hurt was the effort to come back being down at half like we were, take the lead, and see it evaporate in that final drive. Kudos to Tech for not giving up, too. On second thought, nah, they can .......

But we were treated to some great offensive play that season. Colt to Ship. Colt to Quan. Chris Ogbonnaya doing what he do. Rak, Kindle, Miller, Earl Thomas. I'll never forget that TD catch Quan made against the Cowboys in the NE endzone turning completely around, looking directly back into the sun, falling back and catching the ball at a high point. This would have been a season highlight for most but for this bunch was just another in a long line of incredible football plays. Even though I was fortunate enough to witness first hand the mind-f _ _ _ play to beat ohio st, that effort against OSU stood out as the best of the year.

Quan was such a huge cog in the 2008 wheel. He went down in the first half of Tech game and we lost.

We did get the screw and tattoo job that season...no natty opportunity, no Heisman, no Big 12 championship. Lost one game, on the road, at night, in the last second. Screw that. And damn you, mahico, for dredging up the past.

  • ehhh...The '08 team was a very good team, definitely better then the '09 team (except the secondary). But to say the '08 team is special, is a slap in the face to the '05 team.

  • We got screwed because no one in the country thought that Texas Tech should have played Florida for the title so there really was no three way tie.

Damn the coaches that voted OU over Texas after the Horns whipped their asses on a neutral field.

    What a joke.

Watching that great video brought back some great memories. What a stud Quan was. Play after play, stepping up and making the catch. Thanks for posting it, Stampede. You are my ambassador of Quan.
